I need a good light for a 5x5 with UV and good eficiency. I'm trying to keep my wattage/amps down so lights with the most power draw from the wall isn't the most important to me but lower power usage/higher output/ppfd etc is. Any suggestions?

Ideally, with LEDs you'll have up to 40w/sqft when the dimmer is at 100%. At least 30w/sqft is advisable. That puts you in the range of 750w to 1000w pulling from the wall to effectively cover a 5x5 grow. It's best to spread the power density out over the canopy as evenly as possible. Bar-style lights have a better spread than QB-style.

Good luck!

What are your thoughts on THIS light? It looks like it will perform well in the middle of a room ( Not using a tent. Using a spare bedroom ) . I plan on flowering 6-9 plants in the middle of the room. I could move the light and plants into a corner of the room if the added reflectivity of the walls would help. Anyway, what do you think of this light that I linked?

I had a few SZHLUX 400w lights that I got with discount codes posted on this thread by @Marq1340 2 years ago. They put out a lot of light for the price you pay. Pretty decent for a budget light.

I gifted my SZHLUX lights to my neighbor who uses them for vegetable plant starts in late winter through spring. They are still performing well.

The model you posted does not have a pot-style dimmer. It has different modes that switch on/off certain bars to achieve a dimming effect. If I was going to buy an SZHLUX light, I would look at the below model that has a pot-style dimmer.

By pot-style, i mean that it has a dial that appears to be infinitely variable to adjust brightness on all light bars. Not sure if it's actually a potentiometer.

Good luck!

Ns, I saw that one too. It doesn't actually dim it just changes spectrum/bar count etc. I prefer the one I linked because I can leave it one one spectrum and just turn some bars off. Cant dim it though but it is what it is.

I just read the description. Seeing the picture with the knob, I thought it was like a pot. Reading the description, I see where I look dumb.:wall:

So got the medic grow fold 8 around Christmas and went to test the wattage from the wall and this is what im getting....YMMV

100% pulls 810 watts
80% pulling 608 watts
60% pulling 452 watts
40% pulling 305 watts

Box says 760w..

Any QC on these things anymore?! But I'm more interested in seeing a new PAR review if anything to see if things have improved or got worse..

Edit..so if 100% was truly 760w, all of the other dimming settings would be correct. Maybe this one is just hot or maybe to push 760 watts it takes 810 from the wall. idk I thought LEDs usually pull from the wall what they advertise...otherwise, this makes sense to an old school mh/hps grower

Hey @driver77 I'm not sure if I ever told you thank you for posting this light, but thank you. I read everything on the other form and quickly put my order through.
Those where the deal of the century! Recently ask on other forum about how theirs are holding up and no problems at all...all diodes still burning strong. For the money I doubt we see a deal like this again.

Well you did it again. Bravo.
I was in the market for a light to fit my 2x5 closet a little better. Ill be able to throw this one next to my exitsing 400w. This should scratch my itch without breaking a weeks pay.

This light weighs nothing. I've never seen a bar style light this small. And it's almost.... cute? Haha. I'm excited to put it to work.
Almost want to give its own 2x2 tho to see what it's capable of. We'll see
Thanks again

That's quite a cutie! Does it have a control panel of a sort?
