Well i get high times and i was reading it and josh asked what is the best to use in your opinion and they said to use hid 1000 watt lights,ok that i feel is right.then they say mh for vegetative and hps for flowering now i feel they have it backwards. so please let me know if i am wrong.
thanks

Mixing them is hotly debated. I'm not taking sides, but you'll find many that will swear the added blue during flower produces loose buds. Many will also swear that too much red during veg will promote stretch. Still more will say that MH gives a plant a hefty dose of UV-b, which it does not.

I've been looking at lighting myself lately. Plasma, CMH, HID and LED.

MH for veg HPS for bud.

I know people that use HPS for entire cycle. They use the Super HPS.
The Rev claims using the MH Blue for entire cycle is the way to go.
They also have dual spectrum shit available.

I start with Quantum Bad Boy 8-bulb T-5 lights. Then switch to a 1000W Eye Hortilux MH Blue. (Inside a Raptor hood, w/Lumatek ballast).
For flower: All 1000W Eye Hortilux Super HPS bulbs, using Lumatek Ballasts, and Raptor Hoods.

...the common wisdom says to use the MH during veg and the HPS during flower in an attempt to mimic mother nature because, due to the angle of the sunlight as it hits this planet, we get more blue light during the spring and more red light during the fall so mj has evolved to veg under mostly blue light and to flower under mostly red light.

I know most people say that mh is best for veg, but I've had a lot better success in the last year or so vegging under hps. It seems like mh causes my plants to stretch more so i get sqauttier pants under the hps. YMMV.

Lol, "common wisdom", otherwise known as an "old wife's tale". Perhaps better labeled "stoner logic".

...yeah man, it actually works in the opposite way, the redder the light, the more stretch you get, ...and don't take this personal man, it's science that says this, not me.

...lol, just what we need, another wiseass noob who thinks he knows what he's talking about. ...did you even read the bit about the angle of the sunlight homey?

The problem is, there's a LOT of stoner logic. So where do we separate the stoner from the facts? You'll find stoners swearing on their mothers life that MH is good, MH is bad, who knows.

I veg and flower under an Ushio HPS. Not a blue tinted bulb, either. I'd rather have the red than the blue based on what I've read over the years. I supplement with UV-b, but otherwise I'm really only looking for that red in flower.

I've done every combination of MH and HPS you can think of. MH will keep your node spacing tighter, and will induce more vegetation growth. If you use HPS for veg, you will have more stretch. If you can afford two setups (one for veg and one for flower), I would definitely go with with MH for veg, and HPS for flower. If you can only afford one setup for both veg and flower, I would go with an HPS.

There is a lot of disagreement on various techniques in growing, but lighting is about as close to settled "science" as you're going to find in marijuana gardening.

There's a lot of push for CMH or the newer (not sulfur) plasmas to be used in veg. Lots of blue, especially with plasma. For flower, plasma is recommended as a supplement to HPS, since HPS adds a lot of red, counter-balancing the huge blue of plasma.

CMH has more blue, and many guys love it. Others have been disappointed with looser bud attributed to too much blue in flower.

All this leaves me with the opinion (mine) that a lot of blue during flower isn't a great thing.

I pay these people top dollar to study the shit you guys are arguing about.

If anyone here knows more than them, I would be willing to listen.

And they are releasing the 600W MH Blue. I will put two of them on a mover with one of the splitters homeless was braggin about.

Like I said, YMMV. I'm sure i can find sources that say both make the nodes stretch. I'm only speaking on my personal experience and observations in my environment.

I've never tried it, but I'd like to try
CMH for veg.

...high man, CMH is great, i think the perfect setup for a 4 x 4 space is a 400CMH stacked, barebulb vertical below a 600HPS, also barebulb vertical.

...these little White Rhinos were grown under a 400CMH in a SuperSun II air-cooled hood, so horizontally oriented, inside my first budbox and each yielded nearly 2 zipz in a 2liter coke-bottle hempy-bucket so almost a quarter elbow from 4liters of medium.

...did it ever occur to you that that guy you pay top dollar to has a vested interest in telling you whatever it takes to sell you his products?

...just sayin'.

peace, bozo

btw, you might want to tone down the attitude a little too man, coming off like you're the only person with the right info only makes you look bad and will surely give offense.

ITRW, I deal with products that have lab testing. Pretty well known that every manufacturer wants to carve out a niche for themselves. They then support this niche with lab data. I'm not saying the data is false, but I'd say it's incomplete.

Clearly their case is compelling, and I'm not here to say it's a bad thing, but I would also hazard a guess that 98%+ of the blue hort lamps are sold to stoners. That's a guess.
