The BubbleHead Gang

Hello bubbleheads,

I plan on starting a bubble grow in the near future and have many questions that I hope you all can help answer.

1. What needs to change compared to Roseman's DIY thread if I use a large storage bin for my system (30+ gallons)? It seems as everyone here is using about the same size (small) bin for their grows. I want the top of the bin to have a lot of surface area so the plants can spread out more. So would I have to get a larger pump (more than 165 gph) or more air stones?

2. I'm going to get some clones (3-4 nodes and <6") to start with. When should I start adding nutes, right away or...? I'm thinking let them get a few days with some ph balanced bubbly water and when they get used to it/start showing new growth add 1/4 nutes.

3. Can I do a 18/6 light schedg? Will they just grow a little slower compared to 24/7 or is it necessary for them to be on all day?

4. Has anyone ever done a SCRog with this type of system? I want to try it! Perhaps attach a pvc frame with a screen over the top to the lid of the bin.. Any reasons I should NOT try this?
Hey there P&C ! Cool name.

1.) More airstones would be great ! Never too much air, but I think that water pump would work. Maybe a 185 GPH.

2.) I also grow from clone. I started with full strength nutes from the get go. No bad side effects, and plants sky rocketed in growth.

3.) I use an 18/6 schedule in summertime. Helps me control the heat better. My lights turn off 1 pm - 7 pm. Then back on. This makes it so the temps don't fluctuate much. Some will argue which method grows faster.

4.) No help here, I don't SOG or ScROG it. Sorry. Someone will chime in if they haven't already !

Good luck ! and happy growing. :peace:

When bubble cloneing would it be better to have the steems in the water or out?
Are you asking about rooting a cutting in a bubbleponic system ??

The stems need to be out of the water to allow root growth, but they also need to stay super humid and moist.

The mist from all the bubbles bursting, and the humidity in the res would make it perfect for rooting cuttling.

Did that answer it ?

from a different website, but its a diy DWC cloner

I'm currently doing a ScrOG in a bubble system, pictures attached. My plants are in week 5, topped and starting to grow into the screen. Some recommendations:

1. Attach the screen frame to the reservoir lid if you can. This will allow you to lift the lid and screen as a unit. If you don't mount the screen to the lid, you won't be able to lift the lid once the plants are in the screen.

2. You can also use a remote reservoir like I do. I can do all water maintenance - including throwing in ice bottles to cool it if necessary - in the remote reservoir. I don't need to lift the lid on the grow reservoir. The main disadvantage of this is you use twice the nutes; I am in the process of figuring out how to do a complete grow with only one reservoir change.

3. Make sure you have access to all sides of the screen if you can. This makes it easier to train your plants. I made my latest unit easily moved, screen and all.

I also included a picture from my last screen grow and some bud porn from it. This grow was AK-48 in a 2X2 screen under 250 watts. Not the best grow, I beat the shit out of the plants.

First mistake was mounting the screen to the wall. In a pure stoner move, I tried to lift the lid and clean snapped most of the branches on one of the plants. Lesson learned.

The other plant basically took over the screen. Grew some big buds, but they were somewhat airy due to a combination of high heat during flowering (low ninety's when the lights were on) and low light intensity (250 watts).

Still ended up with just shy of 5 oz's of pretty decent bud.

Make sure you have females and you've figured out how you're going to access the reservoir and you should be fine. bongsmilie

I for one don't buy into 24/7, especially for a DWC grow and double especially for a DWC SCRog.

First, in my experience 24/7 doesn't increase the growth rate appreciably.

Second, the growth rate in DWC is already fast; you are usually only vegging for a month anyways. Any extra growth rate you get from 24/7 is not enough to justify the extra electricity costs IMO.

Third, there are plenty of arguments out there stating that MJ needs a dark period during veg to perform some functions. I look at it this way: 24/7 is not natural.

Finally, you're going to have your hands full keeping up with training your plant in the screen as it is with the fast DWC growth rate; you probably won't be wishing the plant was growing faster! Once the plants hit the screen in my last grow I was spending about an hour a day training them.

Just my opinion...

My nutrients have arrived! three 20-20-20's, two 24-8-16, two 10-30-20, each measured for a gallon of water. Should I veg with the 24-8-16 or the 20-20-20? The 10-30-20 I figured I'd save for the flowering stage. Also, does it matter how much nutrient solution my roots are in? It looks like most people go with a large tub, but would I be able to get away with <5 gallons if I'm only gonna have 2-4 plants?

Yes. I grow 5-7 plants in a tub with 5 gallons of water. And to the cloning question earlier, I clone in a dwc tub I made for it. The bottom .5" or so of the stem is submerged and the rest isnt and I consistantly get roots in under 7 days. Here are some pics of my tubs and what 5 plants in 5 gallons can do:

Do you really want to haul 30 gallons of water, every week? use 5 times the nutes that I use? I don't think so. There is a reason no one else uses a big tank and why we all use 8 gallon tanks.

2. I'm going to get some clones (3-4 nodes and <6") to start with. When should I start adding nutes, right away or...? I'm thinking let them get a few days with some ph balanced bubbly water and when they get used to it/start showing new growth add 1/4 nutes.

I'm trying to set up my first bubblepon system, got all I need except two things - the light and the nutrients. So I'm searching for lights online, and I'm seeing a lot of LED lights. I'm wondering is it possible to grow hydro with cool/warm fluorescents? Also, How do I go about setting up my nutrient solution? It seems to be hard for me to find some good information on which nutrients to use, when to use them and how much to use.

You def invited to join out group! Like you mix of additives. Which is the one you think does the most for your plants this grow?

Please feel free to copy the badge and join us!
Thank u ill add ur logo when I get off work! And honestly I'd have to say hands down bud candy and cal mag the bud candy has seemed to increase the smell and they look a bit frostier. The calmag (tenchnaflora magical) made them soooooo perky they looked like they were falling.. Every fan leaf and sugar leaf is reachin for the sky. I swear by these two items. But I am using mainly ans 321 grow bloom and micro as the base and kinda improving on top... I think its working

I sincerely believe that growing pot is one of the most magical, mystical, religious, spiritual experiences we can accomplish here on this earth.

I believe that growing pot brings us to a union with some sort of angels, or great spiritual beings, or LORDS of POT GROWERS, or some high and mighty spiritual beings.

I think that growing pot is watched over by some sort of angels, or great spiritual beings that guide us and the plant's growth.

I think there is a Lord or Angel of the water, of the light (or sun), of the air (or oxygen), that brings it all together for us, leading us to a great spiritual experience.

I think there is a big reason that the Creator God made pot have 600 to 1200 seeds on a plant, and made it very hardy and nearly indestructable and easy to grow and thrive and flourish.

I think it is miraculous that I can run over an outdoor plant with a pickup truck, and flaten it out on the ground, and it will continue to grow.(I've done it)

And I think it is miraculous that I can pull up a male plant outdoors, and throw it ten yards away on rocks and dirt in the woods and it will lay there and struggle to still live and survive and it's roots will dig into the dirt seeking food. (I've seen and done it)

I think there is a reason pot grows in every hemisphere that plants can grow in.

I think it is magical and mystical that a pot plant knows whether there is a plant of the opposite sex or same sex in the general area or vicinity of that plant. Even more amazing is the fact it can make a HERMIE just to insure it gets fertlized and continues to grow.

I think it is miraculous that I can plant a seed outdoors in March, April or May, and another one in July, and August, and they will all bloom at the same time.

And I think it is a miracle that I can take something the size of a pot seed and get enough buds to keep me and a few friends high for so long and for so many times.

Hey Rose did you just smoke a fatty?
I'm scrapping my current bubbler set up. It's not working as I had hoped. I'm going to a single 5 gal with a air stone. Any ideas on keeping the rez temps down? the only thing going at this point is it will sit on a bare basement floor.
