The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

youre right, meassured the 6 boards with hlg320 combo and it is more 90k plus 2" away.
Some lux meters are made for sunlight: reacts different to the spectrum we use, and also:
They only measure the unidirectional light, not the light coming from all different directions like under a tight board build. Almost better to go by watts: 30 per square foot with a fixture like this is plenty, move up and down and let the plants say where they want the light. Best of luck and please post your plants if you can :)

Hey guys love ya work. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is any decent or is it all cheap parts ? Is it the same as the hlg550 v2? I would rather spend 1000 less and get the no brand chinese version

Any info would be great. Thanks homies.

Nevermind i cant link you it because i need some posts and likes or something first haha... wow

nice result !, happy to hear a smoke report in a few weeks.

ok here we go, some impressions.

trying to learn some in my first scrog.

The 3x3 box with the 320HLG is a bit too crowded, could need some more stretch to fill out the room.

The 240HLG setup in the 2.5x2.5 is doing better filling the room, well easier also as it is 3 plants instead of 2 (while theyre younger).

Both are roughly one week in 12/12, plan to tuck them under the screen for another week and then let em go.
In week 3 i think the girls will need some defoliation.

How close to the canopy are your lights and how many watts are you running them in each tent?
Nice setup.

I would raise the light a bit to promote a bit more stretch. And lolipop a bit, defo below. So many leaves so close to the pot is not desireable, you can get humidity related probs like mold with the plant transpiring and the substrate moist.

you are right, followed your sugestion.
Raised the light now to ca. 12" to promote stretch, still quite some lux on the canopy, 50-65k.
The lights are since yesterday on full power.
Did some defoliation and lolipoping
Really hope i get them a bit better managed, especially in the hlg320 setup.
Those are RQS Bubble Kush btw. :blsmoke:

Wattage is ok, how tall is your tent? These lights go at least 18" over your plants.
80" tall.
I was thinking about building one. Was going to spend like $800 but.. These look look pretty much the same as led gardner.. And more professional put together. I build a smaller one for my 2x4. What are your thoughts?

HLG550 and its many china clones suffer a bit from light spread: its a lot of light concentrated.
You can also build using individual boards, get 4 boards to replace each 550 and spread them how you like them.

China diodes will not be as good as HLG, period. However its my personal belief that 2 china diodes at the same power as 1 HLG; 2 diodes win. So if you want you can also try changing out one 550 for 6 boards on the same driver in parallel. If you go for even more boards you also start thinking about losing the heatsink, either bareback or with a alusheet backing works quite fine.

Alright guys im about to make.my.purchase off alibaba. Is any retailer fine? They all seem to have the same product. Or is there 1 specific retailer you guys buy your hlg copies off ? Please let me no. Always whats better a hlg550 or 2 240w?

Kingbrite, R2T or Meijui is your best bet.
If possible just order the boards and heatsinks from China and purchase your drivers locally.

2 x 240 watts are more versatile than 1 x hlg550. Better spread of light.

Or the FOTOP boards :bigjoint:

And whats the go with the fotop boards? They any better than the quantum boards??
The FOTOPs are a great option too.
I'm running them at 150 watts per board without any heatsinks.
Just a aluminium frame needed to keep them rigid.
I'm sure you've looked at the FOTOP thread already

https://www.rollitup.org/t/diy-fotop-grow-board-280x900x2-0mm-l29-52-xw9-18.960546/

Cheaper postage with just the boards.
2 x FOTOPs a driver, some wire and a couple of wagos.... easy peasy to build and covers the area far better than an hlg550 - 1152 diodes v 2X FOTOPS with 1600 diodes
