Purple Cannabis is all the rage in the Nocal clubs and it is highly sought after by both consumers and producers, lets explore this phenomenon and learn some things about Cannabis and Color. Do we see any great demand for purple today? Not in normal things because they’re readily available but when it comes to Purple Pot it’s another story.
Cannabis floral clusters are basically green, but changes may take place later in the season, which alter the color to include various shades. The intense green of chlorophyll usually hides the color of accessory pigments, Chlorophyll starts to loose it’s vibrant green color late in the season and anthocyanin pigments also contained in the tissues are uncovered and the amazing colors are produced at this time. Purple, resulting from anthocyanin accumulation, is extremely common in Cannabis, this color modification is usually triggered by seasonal change, and also can be influenced indoor by a temperature drop of between 20-30 degrees.

This does not mean, however, that Purple is controlled by environment alone and it can be passed on genetically. For purple color to develop upon maturation, a strain must have the genetically controlled metabolic potential to make anthocyanin pigments and be responsiveness to environmental change such as cold nighttime temps. This means a strain can have the genetic potential to change color but if conditions never exist you may never know it. I have grown Jacks Cleaner for a long time and when I moved west and it found some dramatically cooler temps I got a nice maroon/ purple coloring at maturity

There are other pigments that effect the color of mature cannabis for example Carotenoid is largely responsible for the yellow, orange, red, and brown colors in buds. I find this effect is much easier to accomplish in Organics and soil but in order to really call a strain Purple it needs to have more than colored outer leaves and the inner buds need to actually be Purple.


One aspect that I also find interesting is the purple potency debate, for those that have collected a few plants that produce Purple buds under any conditions like certain Black Russian phenotypes we have noticed something that seems to be consistent. When growing out females of a hybrid that have both color females and non colored females the colored one seems to always be less potent.

how cold ? my temps drop down to about 11-12 degrees celsius at night ..is that to cold?also sub i just bought some new seeds"b4 i saw your threads" :)called "hashbomb" from @#%#-seeds.nl it said they were new and i check the interenet and cannot find 1 bit of info on it , u seen this strain b4?

I wanna say thanks for being level headed Subcool, and continuing this thread. I seriously enjoy reading this thread and smoking to start my day. There is a lot of knowledge to be gained here, and certainly much more to come, so please people. Behave and let the man do his thing.

Do you remember when you first joined RIU? We actually joined on the same day lol. I spoke to you about a Purple strain of mine. Purple Krush (not Kush). The Purple Afghani crossed with Vic High's Orange Crush? She's supposed to be a clone only (Nor Cal) strain as well, but I got some beans from a self pollinated female (not sure what stressed her out). So far I have had nothing but hermie issues with the females grown from these seeds, sadly (expected, might try some dutch master reverse on one someday, idk though).

However, I have noticed pretty much the same thing with the Purple/non purple plants. The ones that stay more green always seem to be a bit more (sometimes a lot) potent than their sisters.

This is a strain I recommend a lot to people looking to try out our genetics because it is just really fun smoke that taste really great and works well to relieve nausea. While considered a Sativa hybrid it has remarkable pain relieving aspects which are not as common as in Indica hybrids, Vortex numbs the pain while making you laugh and giggle all while enjoying a light show in the minds eye.

Apollo lovers beware you may be fooled by this new hybrid, I know these pictures look a lot like our mother plant Apollo-13 herself but this is Vortex one of the Top 10 Strains of the Year and the strain I recommend the most to those wanting to try our gear.
Having a smell similar to mangos and cherries but with a faint putrid baby poo under smell. Its very hard to put a description on this slightly fruity yet sour and rotten all at the same time. It has a great eye buzz and the second hit slams you in the skull and says hey your stucking foned.

Some females are extra special, looking almost identical to the mother I have been growing some 12 years now. I knew there was a perfect combo to allow the traits of Apollo to shine through while if not adding something nice from the Space Queen at least putting combo in seed form so others can enjoy the speedy soaring mind buzz of these two elite collector strains. The high is very cerebral and thought provoking as well as slightly motivating. I do a lot of writing and grow room organizing while stoned off my ass on Vortex.

Very easy to grow when I recently started 20 Vortex seeds to do a male selection from and I got 18 females so I had to scrap that project which is good news for anyone starting some of these beans even though it’s not a feminized strain. She does very well in both SOG and SCROG and trains very well in a cabinet grow. She is also very at home in a larger garden with additional veg time. Everyone agrees that Vortex is indeed a Dank Milf.


Every one of these bud shots is from a different seed!!

hey sub that vortex is a real beauty. you will definately rank high up in that medical cup if you dont win :)

also i was wondering how would i go about obtaining some dannyboy (if youve still got some beans around) i cant find it on any of the providers listed by your site

lol i think it would be a more of a sentimental value. plus no talking about trading or selling seeds in the forums. you get a slap on the wrist if you do that

Dannyboy was a tribute to a friend who died at the early age of 38 and there are no more seeds around not even in my stash as I gave my last too packs two dear friends that ask.
