The far red thread

So where am I going with this... With this said, Wouldn't it be beneficial to run both 660 and 730 during the entire lights on period and then JUST the 730 alone for 15 minutes after lights out? This seems like it would give you both the benefit of increased photosynthesis during lights on, and then faster transition to dark period, allowing 13/11 or even 14/10???

Am I correct in thinking this or am I wrong?
Yes your correct, however there is concern with excess stretching if there is an overabundance of far red during the day cycle. Warm white cob lights do emit small amounts of far red. Doesn't neeed much additional far red.

I would love to see someone else experiment with FR on during the day. Let me know how it compares to plants without added FR during the day.

Maybe a little bit of extra FR during the day helps? I don't want to try myself though!
Somebody did it already..hmmmm... I can't quite remember whom though. But all it did was make the plants stretch.

That's interesting.. I would like to try it. I would run 660 and 730 together for the full lights on, and then just the 730 15 additional minutes after lights out. Someone was saying that the plant knows it's morning when the 660 comes out in the a.m. has anyone tried to run just the 660 for 15 minutes before turning their lights on for the day? Idk if that would make sense or not.

As far as turning lights on at the start of the day cycle. A normal white cob light will have plenty of 660 to start up the morning. More interesting is whether a slow warm up in the morning is beneficial or not.

Just on a lark I set my far reds to do both sunset and sunrise with a 1 hour far red on\off cycle. (15 min far red during dark, and 45 minutes of far red during lights on at both dusk and dawn). I haven't a clue whether its better or not, but timer wise its easy. The only thing that I noticed is that it does not effect stretching, and I get the same effect on flowering as far reds on for 15 minutes at sunset..

That's with 660?

I added 2 Far Reds and IR and Royal Blues to one of my COB builds and the plants under are looking amazing...1 pheno i have under all the different light spectrums in my room is looking the best under the one with the IRs and Blues ,and 2 Far Reds...I also run the Far Reds 15 mins after lights out...Just my 2 cents..peace and love:peace::bigjoint:

Ya it happens. I run 8 on 2 240-1750b's. My girls got burnt up!
I was considering using a 1750 driver in the future and tht would run the cobs at 65watts i thin..dnt quote me on tht...How did u like it when u did it?
are u still using the 1750?
all in all just askin ur experience with it so i can have a lil first hand knowledge from ppl who used them...thanks..peace and love:bigjoint::peace:

Of course I still use the 1750. That's what's on my build. I love it. I always reccomend to everyone getting a higher MA driver so you have the power if you want it. You can always dim.

light mixing is like nuet mixing only with out the mess. to bad (good)spectrum readers are so dam expensive, I would love to have a lab level tests my light mixes. what would a t3 and a single chm 3100k spec look like.

I didn't read, much on the thread, but if its not been said CMH.

5 stars on here at 2.1V/700 mA (evenly spaced though hard to see on this pic lol). driver can handle 21 total this will be the "hub" and i will make 4 more bars w/ 4 each and run driver voltage over from this bar.

how much area would you expect this to cover? 2x5? 3x5? bar is 4' long. planning to start it 5 min before lights off and run it for 20 min total

You don't need much... I'd say it should cover 2x5 easily and prob 3x5 too.

I run about 10W from a single chip and it easily covers 2x3'
