The Fox's Northernberry Grow - T5/250HPS, Organic Media

yea man. its a lot easier training them when they're younger. scrog's are typically easier with more sativa dominant plants too compared to those stalky indica's that are a little harder to train. if you're really inclined to try it, you could, just gotta be super careful. as you already know ;-)

These ladies are definitely indica dominant and a bit old for it like you said, plus this is my first grow. Id like to get a baseline by just growing straight (ie. no prune, no topping, no scrog) then Ill try the more advanced techniques and compare yield.

I posted another pic, q, youre right about this growth, its goin nutz - I gotta keep up with the nute demands!

oops, heres the pic.

It looks like the plants are naturally taking up all the lighted space. I just gotta look out for the shorter ones on the sides or the one tall beast lady in the middle is gonna choke em out.

Good god! I think they grew like 7 inches since my last post. Its a fuckin jungle. I didnt think itd get to this point but it looks like space is going to be a huge limiting factor. The middle plant is just growing too fast and might overtake the other two, should I intervene or what?? Prune? top? I have no idea how to do these techniques properly at this stage in the life cycle, any advice would be appreciated!

It is difficult to see whats going on in this pic:

The tallest plant was about 16" on the last day of veg, now its 28" = 1.3" per day!

My grow space is 22" deep, 38" wide, and about 7' tall...

how will the growth patterns change over the course of flower? will height be an issue or will the growth slow?

I lost track of my northernberries in the soil fiasco early in my grow, all I know is that the remaining ones are mixed seeds from peakseeds. I suspect the tall one is a skunk dominant pheno whereas the two shorter ones are northern lights or blueberry dominant pheno. Guess we'll see in a few weeks...

also, when I ordered I bought a pack of 20 mixed seeds for $40 CASH, I asked for 10 free northernberry seeds and they followed through. Pay cash or you wont get free seeds.

Thanx Fox and I wish you well on your growing...Yeah I've heard those mixed seeds aren't labeled which would drive me crazy. .Always wondered why they do that...

later

Still growin strong. I didnt check on my plants for a few days and the largest one grew into the lamp, the main stem got fried...I cut off the damaged areas. I think this will reroute plant hormones - not sure what effect it will have this late in the game.

The largest plant is now 42" tall. The other two are really getting suffocated but Im not sure what to do, no space. It looks like the big one is flowering earlier so maybe I can get harvest her before the others can breathe easy for the last few weeks of flower.

Smells so sweet in here, its wonderful. I got a dehumidifier since my RH was pushin 60-70%! The dehumidifier uses a lot of energy and heats up the room bad. I had a second fan that Ive had to rig to the humidifier to pipe out the heat to my bedroom. Since its winter its like free heating for my house, but this would never work in the summer, id be crankin the ac nonstop...

Tallest plant is about 46" now and the two runts are starting to flower nicely

love your room man. it's so tech in there haha with your Hanna ph/ec/ppm reader and that multi outlet looks pretty heavy duty. do you know how many watts total it can hold? plants are looking good too. how'd it recover after that burn?

thanks man, thats a hanna continuous meter - lot easier and heavy duty than the pen and you can watch your ppm/tds change in real time as you add nutes. The surge is a belkin in a metal case, you can get it at home depot for <$30, its rated for 1875 watts continuous/700 joules. Its fine for me since im only running a 400 watt HID and 390 watt dehumidifier but youd prolly need to upgrade if youre using 1K watters.

The plant recovered nicely after the burn. Thats part of the reason I got a dehumidifier, figured lower RH would help prevent infection/rot at the burn site. I also noticed that several of the secondary buds gained mass after the terminal bud burned off so maybe it worked in my favor??

I need to get one of those Hanna meters once I get a permanent room and hydro system up and going but for now, my pen works fine :eyesmoke:

makes sense that the lower buds gained more girth since the top bud fried though. there are a couple little tricks like super cropping that can achieve almost identical bud sizes all the way down the branch, if you don't snap the branch first that is ;-) but in your case, there was no bud on top, so the auxins, nutes, and water all went to your other buds instead of one hefty cola sucking the majority of the uptake. scrogging is another good way of achieving equal bud size, but that's next round right? :bigjoint:

Hah, yeah Ima work up to those techniques. However it would appear that letting nature take its course is a pretty dam good method too :-P

FYI I got that Hanna meter for free cuz I threw a fit after getting it on ebay and realizing the pH4 calibrator was broken (it still calibrates fine with the pH7 knob). If you ask to speak to an ebay rep they will refund your money sooo easy now since they have lost so much business after the economy collapsed.

Having some trouble right now. The nute uptake has slowed dramatically (ie. the ppms and pH arent changing) and the roots look brownish. I dont think its root rot since my root temps have ranged from 58 to 65 and they dont smell funny, but why are they brown? Maybe its the molasses Im using? Anyway, I changed the res and added H2O2, Ill leave them in straight phd water for a day or two and see if the probs sort themselves out. Will update with pics soon.
