I would agree, government is not the most trustworthy entity, however ethics oversight doesn't require trust, only the law.

When "the law" is made by government, the meaning of it is defined or conveniently redefined by government and the adjudication of breaking the law is done by government it would seem like ethics is not in the equation.

True indeed. But we the people are only to blame for those who create the laws. We put the representatives there to make the laws in the first place.

trump only criticized the prioritization of it, not the intent.

it was scrapped because we flooded their phonelines non-stop this morning.

trump is trying to take credit for the actions of millions of vigilant citizens.
