That was my thought too! (hence my post)
I have a plant in a hempy just for grins/testing (I don't grow hempy, but *super* dig the concept!) The one in a hempy is in a 4 gal with a 50/50 perlite vermiculite and it seems to go a week between waterings easy. I'm cutting back on the vermic.

Layering media might help too. Hydroton at bottom, covered by a bit of perlite then a 5:1 Perilte:vermiculite. (just thinking out loud)

My hempy style right now is a 44 oz cup and hydroton. I don't know how I'm making it a week between waterings, but whatever. I water on one sunday, and by the next sunday the cups are dry, but the plant's arn't wilting. Its a concern of mine to have the roots sitting in water for more than 4 days as well, but I'm just watering as needed, and seems to be working out.

Anything that I should be concerned about though?

Im stoked i just picked up 2 sour diesels, a banana OG, and a 91 chemdog for now, and am planning on picking up some blackberry and master kush tuesday. All of it going to be in Hempy sadly ive read just about every page in this section, and really want to try it. I was thinking though if the clones are in rockwool is there any thing i have to worry about with them because i know that it holds moisture much more than the 100% perlite. Ill put pictures up tomorrow night of the 4 i cant wait to get this going. And what would a good bucket size be for a 3 to 4 foot plant i swas thinking about 2 or 3 gal would be enough. Im growing in a 2x2x5"10 for the clones and the mothers and then 3x3x7 for the flowering plants.

just make sure you bury the rockwool cubes a few inches into the perlite....other then that you starting with a dank selection....for 4 foot plants 3 gals will work fine...peace az

Hey I read half way through the page and don't know if this question has been answered. I've searched all the surrounding towns/cities and have found that only Wal Mart carries Shulz Perlite, in 8qt bags @ $3 each. I was wondering if you can use peat moss? or is the Shulz Perlite worth spending the money? Any other suggestions on mediums? I am for sure doing hempy.(1st time)

thanks for the heads up im planning on making it a perpetual grow eventually so maybe ill go with the sour diesel for one of the the mothers. As far as which ones i got the guy from the club told me they were just sour d so thats what im hoping for. Any idea as to which two should be mothers i figure to have 2 mothers and cut from her about 20 clones every 2-3 weeks, let me know if this doesnt sound right. Tomorrrow im picking up master kush, along with black domina, and strawberry cough. Its all very exciting!

one more question AZ what does your watering schedule look like. Are you feeding ever watering or are you waiting and doing some thing more along the lines of water, water, feed, water, water, feed

i like to do water water feed correct....i'd rather have a plant tell me its a lil hungry vs one telling me i fucked up an overfed.....peace az

Fuck... I have like... mold or something in the bottom of my hempy. It's only been like 1 day since watering, but DAMN. I first noticed the leaves drooping like the lights were off, and then the tip of a leaf was curled and dried... so I figured it was root bound. I was about to transplant anyways, so I rushed to transplant. and yuck, when I cut the bottom of the styro cup off... it was like green/grayish mold looking shit....

Can I just dip the roots in a h202 bath and continue the transplant?

in theory yes....i have noticed that will happen f to much water is added an the hole is not big enough....try adding another hole next time or making the one a lil larger..peace az

az, i'm doin my first grow and I plan to put my babies in hempy 16oz party cups when they are big enough to get out of the humidome but i've got a few questions. I've got 6 babies that have popped up so far & 4 have gotten their first set of leaves. i'm feeding with 1/4 strength bc grow & bc bloom through spray bottle. i've got 4 42w cfl's about 2" from the top of the humidome but I was curious as to how long I should wait for roots to establish before putting the rw cubes into my hempy cups in the open air...unfortunately my humidity is in the mid 30%'s outside the dome so i'm afraid to put the delicate young plants in the open air with such dryness. advice would b cool

Anybody see the new silver 16oz. solo cups? Looks like they are going after a large part of their market. :eyesmoke: I haven't bought any yet, I just bought a fresh pack of red's when a week later I noticed the new silver ones.

My hempy tip of the day for the unacquainted is to use cheap cookie sheets underneath your solo cups so you don't spill stuff all over.

Peace,

PP

So i have had the clones i got for about a week now in their hempy cups and they arent looking so hot. I figured maybe one of the more advanced guys could tell me what im doing wrong.
distilled water
PBP grow at 400 ppm
root excellerator at 3ml pg
one 150w grow bulb CFL
a fan moving air around them constantly
when i put them into the perlite there where roots pooking out of the bottom of the rockwool cubes so i know that they were rooted. I have noticed a small amount of growth on the tops and leaf bud sites but other than that the rest of the leaves make me very concerned

Is it just the plants trying to reach for the bottom of the cup and thats why they are looking so hagggered. i dont really know so if anyone does please inform.

looks like you overfed at some point an caused your plant to start locking out calicum..i would flush for 5-6 days then add a dose of a cal/mag supplement...the problem will fix it'self .....peace az

I guess there's nothing wrong with distilled, but Reverse Osmosis is the true worry-free way to do hempy. The beauty of hempy though is almost every watering is a flush. So if you ever overnuted extremely, you can dump the reservoir, and flush with water.

Try feeding it only water for a few days like Az said. I realize a clone is a "mature" plant, but those things are so small I wouldn't be hitting them with anything other than water or a really diluted fert.

So my transplant into the 3gal bucket went fine. I simply gave the roots a hydrogen peroxide bath, then transplanted.
