The Irish Growers Thread!

Thanks for the reply.

I have a couple of timers lying about that I can use. I put them in pots of various sizes, from smallish to quite big using shamrock potting compost.
I suppose I can transfer them to larger pots when the time comes?

I was thinking of getting a 1 x 250w veg bulb and 1 x 250w flowering bulb and reflectors, like these and split my grow area into 2 (veg and flowering)
Would the 250w be enough for 3 - 4 lowryder#2/ak47 plants?

I have a lot to learn, but it will be worth it.
Id say they would do perfect for four auto plants if you were planning on having more plants in there in future you could end up investing more on a flowering light maybe you should get a 600 watt hps for flowering from the start then you have light for more than 4 plants

What nutes are you going to be using ?
And yes it will be worth it , nothing like your own buds

Whats up guys, just wondering, do any of the Irish growers grow hydro.

I havent read every post in this thread but ive read from problay about page 40 onwards and I dont think ive noticed any DWC, aeroponics or the like being used.

We're not all afraid of a little water are we???

Learning curve is so much steeper with hydro, think I'll get a few soil grows under my belt then have a go, does look a lot less messy and easier to control!

Read last night that over watering seedlings causes the stem to grow, which is probably what I did and why she's leaning, top heavy. She hasn't toppled over yet and I'm hoping she'll look better tomorrow, if not I'll transplant her sooner than I wanted to and bury the stem.

Well done bafana bafana !!! Come on Uraguay!!

yeah i think hydro is way to hard,id love to try it but im a first time grower and havnt much space. Has anyone grown white widow? im expecting seeds in the post in next few days. How do most people germinate? ive used the paper towel way and 8 0f 10 sprouted. is this the best way? anyone use the shot glass method? less chance of drying out?

I`m not sure what nutes I`ll be using yet, I have some cheapo stuff for flowering plants that i will try. I didnt think the autoflowering plants needed much nutes apart from at the flowering stage. What would you recommend?

Regarding the lighting, I`m still not sure what to do, CFL or HPS, I still can`t decide. I do intend on possibly growing bigger plants in future. Man this is confusing ! :)
If anyone wants to recommend me some startup lighting etc, and where to get them then that would be great! I`m all ears.

I can`t wait to vape my own buds. It is going to be worth it alright :)

I couldnt give you any advise on the nutes as i have only used plagron alga bloom with my auto's but id say the less nutes added the better IMO with the auto's

Took some pics before nap time. The stem doesn't seem to be leaning any more than it was, but the leaves are growing straight up, almost like she's trying to LST herself . Still amazed at how quickly these plants grow!! Think it may be for the best if I just transplant her when she wakes up, any differing opinions? How much of the stem should I leave out, I'm thinking an inch??

I germinated my seed(s) in a glass of water, mainly because they were really old and I was testing to see which ones were still alive, got 1 out of 5 . I like this method, no chance of drying out and I'll probably always do it this way. This is the method I used:

1. Put the seeds in a glass of mineral water with pH value 7 (I used ordinary tap water). Put the glass in a dark room.
2. After 24 - 48 hours, the seed will open and a tiny white point will appear: the root (mine took 2 and a half days, but it was an old seed).
3. The moment that root is visible, the seed must be taken out of the water to prevent mould.

I took mine out with tweezers, put it half an inch deep into watered soil, covered it with soil and left it in a heated propagator. Took about 2 days for her to poke through the soil.

I also read a lot from riddleme and uncleben, they give good advice!!

I'm quarter Irish, half English, the rest of dubious origin (probably Scottish) but mostly South African so also got my team to support . Not supporting France so come on Uraguay !!

Ok so this is my first grow. The new leaves are rougher and darker than others but is still sprouting new leaves at top and bottom. Im a newb but have read and read as much as i can and i reckon its nut burn. but would appreciate a second or 3rd opinion. I have flushed the soil yesterday is there anything else i can do? Ph is at right level. Plant is Durban Poison and supposidly a very strong plant and good for beginners. Soil has good drainage even tho i have no perlite or anything else for drainage, just loose soil. Ill attach pics. All comments appreciated

@ T.g... I'd defo get hps.. Cfl wont cut the mustard.. certantly if you going to try and have 4 plants under neath it... No need to have a veg and flowering bulb.. hps will do the lot..

Welcome by the way..

@ Scape goat, looks like you've fed it with a too higher p & k value..

Flush but don't keep the roots too wet and then feed with a diluted fed with a higher N value..

This guy really knows his stuff, read through his threads and posts before you start hopping around the forum, 9 times out of 10 I've found the answer I was looking for and he keeps it simple!

cheers jay,

what nutrient brand u recommend? ive only flushed it the once is that enough?
At the moment I'm making my own potion up using Phostrogen, flowering feed from woodies called Algoflash, also some flowering feed from a grow shop.
Try you local grow shop and see what they recomend.. Bio bizz is good, although your local gardening centre will have feed that your plants will love..

I have used miricle grow but I dont tend to use that in the flowering stage as its suppose make the weed taste rotten..

they look well man ive one on the grow atm using tomato fert does the trick realy well. Its levingtons tomato fert with seaweed extract. I ahave it in a fishtank to keep excess rain off it. acts as a mini greenhouse.

Poor Celia!!

Everything went fine up until I went to put her in her new pot and the root ball broke :wall:. The tap root still looked intact but I lost some of the smaller white roots, didn't even get her in as far as I wanted too, didn't want to mess with her after that trauma. She's back in her box and hopefully when I wake up tomorrow she'll still be alive and kicking, wouldn't put any money on it tho lol.
