I just saw a thing on the news this morning saying that the city apologized to the mom and the little girl and are now letting her set up at the fair.
Way to fight "The Man"!

The government goons backed down and let her set her stand up. I understand the need for permits and rules, but perhaps they could make a seperate permit that would be much more affordable for little kids with an entrepeneurial spirit.

This a teachable moment.. not unlike the "Daddy Tax" at Halloween.... Daddy sorts through your bag and gets first choice. From this, many Children grow up to be Conservative Republicans. In this case they learned about hyper-regulation, tyranny, dealing with the Government and so forth.
Probably they shouldn't have set up at a public fair and invited vendors who are permited etc. to complain.

Its called Busking. Not even the same as panhandling, or "working for food". More likely the proper panhandlers will be the first to call the cops and complain. Busking is a perfectly acceptable activity. Some towns, market places and business owners actually like it. It adds to the flavor and atmosphere.
The Irish band Rodrigo y Gabriella started out busking. The Opera Babes were 'discovered' while busking... they did it to pay for lessons.

that's a really good point.
you have to think about what you did as a kid to earn a dollar for candy or something along the line of. but cmon, everyone tried something along the lines of this, but i never did it at a fair, the child has a better idea, go to the people, why wait for them to find you. hahaha

That's what I'm saying. Why are we punishing people with an entrepeneurial spirit? Small business is extremely important to the economy, and small businesses sometimes grow up to become big businesses. I'm all about the govt. getting their share, so why not make the process of getting a permit more accessible and affordable. Some of the red tape needs to go!
