The Naturalist's 1600 Watt Perpetual (Organic)

I have decided that its time for me to start keeping a grow journal again, hopefully new growers can learn from it and more advanced growers can give me some guidance. My room mate and I run this medical grow together, its a good partnership. The plants are all organic because I feel strongly that chemical nutes result in chemical filled buds, our plants are CLEAN! We may loose some yield by opting to go organic but that is irrelevant because our priority is to get the highest quality, not quantity. Anyways...

The grow is made up of 3 closets, one is for veg and the other two for flower. The idea is that each month we harvest one of the two flowering closets and then refill it with the plants from the veg closet, subsequently the clones from the clone dome then move into the veg closet. The staggered cycles of the closets helps keep the work load from overwhelming us.

Veg Closet:
  • Grow Lab 80 2.5X2.5 ft (fits perfectly inside of closet)
  • 400 Watt MH CoolTube
  • 240 CFM Inline Fan (vents air out of building through laundry ducting)
  • Circulating Fan

Flower Closets:
  • Mylar Walled 1.5X4 ft Closet
  • 600 Watt HPS Air Cooled Hood
  • 400 CFM Inline Fan
  • Carbon Filter

I am a low stress training MANIAC! Started training these 6 plants from the start to get this nice even canopy.
3 Kush plants and 3 unknown but dank genetics

Closet #1 has power stip and both digital ballasts, Closet #2 has both inline fans

Closet #2 is asleep so I cant take any pictures for you, we keep the two flower closets on completely opposite light schedules so that only one 600 watt light runs at a time. Ill upload pictures of the OG#18 plants in closet #2 later when they switch.

Peace,

Hey bioWheel thanks for stopping by! Heres what happened, we had the assortment of plants that are in closet #1 as well as the four OG#18 plants in closet #2 vegging together, we decided to flower the 6 together while they were small, and the 4 later when they are bigger. We did it like that to create the stagger between the two closets, but the result was more smaller plants in one of the closets. The Holy Grail plants in the veg closet are just seedlings, but I topped them today so they will start getting branchy soon!

Last night after #2 turned on I snapped some pictures:

Four OG#18 plants in 1 gallon pots (transplanting to 5 gallons tonight)

Plumbing: this closet has both fans and vents the air from both closets out through the wall

Yesterday I topped the Holy Grail seedlings (which they are responding well to today with new node growth!), transplanted the OG#18 into 5 gallon pots and watered both the flowering closets.

For soil we use a pretty simple mix that has been working well:

  • 5 parts ffof
  • 2 parts perlite (of the large grain variety)
  • 1 part ewc
  • a sprinkle of bat guano
  • a dash of Mykos

I havnt really decided how detailed of records to keep on here yet, but i guess its worth going over my feeding schedule at least once. My local hydro store gives out a good compost/worm tea every Wednesday & Saturday, we get 1 or 2 gallons each time and its shared between our plants. We also use filtered water from a refillable 5 gallon jug for our plants.

For veg plants we add molasses, biogrow, and blue sage beneficial bacteria to the worm tea/ filtered water.

Flowering plants get a combination of molasses, bio grow, bio bloom, and roots bloom added to their worm tea/ filtered water.

Sometimes we also PH our nutes by adding either lemon juice or wood ash

After topping the Holy Grail seedlings 2 days ago I am seeing a lot of new node growth, this plant didnt have ANY nodes at all before being topped:

photo (42).jpg

Up untill the OG#18s i have now i had never topped a plant. I attained the branchieness and even canopy of the plants in Flowering Closet #1 by using LST. I used to prefer this method over topping because low stress training doesn't stunt the plants, but after what i have seen with topping it doesn't seem to stunt the plant much either and it is very effective! What do you think?

Hey Happy Cannabis, thanks for subbing my grow journal and welcome to RIU!

Now that the Holy Grails have node growth I decided to do their first round of low stress training to expose those new nodes to some light!
photo 1 (1).jpg

The first tie down is almost always the same, I use one string down at the base for support and then i pull in the opposite direction with another string higher up the stem. I found that when i try to bend over the plant without the support it doesn't work out so well. Heres a close up of how they look:

Update

I took 8 new clones tonight from the OG#18 plants in Flower Closet #2. The strongest of these clones will become our OG#18 mother, the next four strongest will be grown out after the Holy Grail, and the weaklings will be put on display in by boa constrictors cage until they die (My snake likes the foliage)

Some of those clones look like they need some magnesium. Very nice and clean journal and I love LST.
My OG#18 plants that the clones came off of were a little light bleaches in spots and that shows on the clones for sure. I would assume magnesium def too though if I hadn't watched it happen from being left too close to the lights. The OGs are in closet #2 which is off all day and on all night so they dont get quite as much attention...

Today we build a screen for each of the two flower closets, #1 has already been pretty much trained without it but its going to help a lot in #2. I made a little step by step incase anyone following along wants to learn to make their own.

Step 1: get the supplies! Wood, nails, corner brackets, string

IMG_3385.jpg

Step 2: attach corners, take note the the total length of your screen is going to be the length of the wood you used plus the width of the wood you used. If you dont quite understand what i mean by that then analyze this picture
IMG_3387.jpg

Step 3: Mark off every 3 inches along the inside diameter of your frame. Be sure that all the dots on both sides line up so that you get squares rather then diamonds
IMG_3388.jpg

Step 4: put one small nail into each marking
IMG_3390.jpg

Step 5: Wrap one continuous string toughly around the nails forming squares
IMG_3391.jpg

Step 6: Mount in grow room (picture of Flower Closet #1)

And a little photo update...

Its hard keeping a journal updated on 4 different sets of plants, specially when they are never on at the same time! haha

So we wrestled the OGs under their new screen the night i built it, and then last night the tips had all turned up towards the light, heres some pics:

Flowering looks good. Really in good shape on your grow. Are you just taking select pics? Because I don't see a spot on the leaves or any yellowing - looks like a 'stock' photo. :eyesmoke: Think I'm a a bit jealous - that's probably it.

Haha well I always pluck the dead yellow leafs under the canopy so theres nothing to hide from the pictures. Right now all the plants are pretty healthy but we do have a slight powder mildew problem in the veg tent and flower tent #2. Theres just a few little white spots on some of the lower leafs, know any good solutions for taking care of this?

Im back... with lots of pictures! Sorry for the delay, my phone stopped uploading pictures direct to my laptop so it has been delaying my update. Ill go in order of youngest to oldest of all the plants that are awake right now:

Clone Dome:
The OG kush clones that were in here beforw have now upgraded into our new "pre-veg" room. Now we have 15 holy grail clones in here (3 from each of the 5 plants). We are going to preserve the genetics of each of our 5 phenotypes until we can determine the best to keep as a mother.
photo 3 (1).jpg

11 of the 15 clones have already rooted
photo 4 (1).jpg

Pre-Veg:
We picked up a new 5 bulb T5 florescent light for this new closet space.
photo 2 (5).jpg

6 of the 8 OG clones rooted and moved into soil cups here, most of them have been dispersed to other patients already but we are keeping the strongest as our new OG#18 mother. This room will soon be filled by the newly rooted HG clones.
photo 1 (5).jpg

Veg Closet --> Flower Closet #3:

Although our system is designed to veg the plants in this space and then move them to another closet for flowering, we decided to set up a new "pre-veg" room and use this tent to immediately flower our holy grail plants. We are doing this because if we keep veging them until Flower CLoset #1 is open they will be HUGE. So here are our 5 Holy Grail plants 1 week into flower.

FLower Closet #1:
These plants are 6 weeks into flower. The leaves are turing yellow and purple. Cant wait for harvest!

What really excited me about the plants in this closet is how dense the nugs are, you can see in this pic how the bud is continuous all te way down the branch, yum

photo 4 (2).jpg

Flower Closet #2:
This closet is sleeping but i cant wait to show you guys because Im really proud of how it is going, the closet is full of some big sativa looking nugs! I will update with pics this evening when lights come on!
