true....even corn and wheat cows everything is using fossil fuels the planet couldnt support all of us on the energy of the sun

i have some corn growing right now with dirt, water, and sun. no fossil fuels whatsoever involved. what the fuck are you talking about?

btw, fossil fuels are mostly decomposed plant matter that was grown by the energy of the sun, genius.

Berdo is correct, you ought to try looking at the correlation between oil and food production. Or did you think that Mexicans harvest all the corn and wheat by hand?

The correlation is that food must be grown, most often fertilizer is used, that Vast majority of fertilizer is made from Natural Gas. Then the food must be harvested, excluding very few crops this is done with MACHINES that use fuel for power. After crops are harvested the processing begins, even more fuel is used , then it needs to be delivered to its final destination and they use trucks and rail and ship to get it there. Guess what Trucks and Trains and Ships use to get themselves around? I think you know the answer. You little organic crop is but .000000001% of a drop in the bucket compared to the production commercial growers put out. Oil is the cheapest energy source, when oil runs out people will die from starvation as oil makes all that abundance of food possible.

And one other FAIL on your part. You obviously know nothing of abiotic theory of oil, or you would not have made the statement you did.

this is the statement i was responding to. beardo here tries to tell us that the planet earth is not capable of supporting us on the energy of the sun. you seem to miss the point entirely by recanting how things ARE, not how they COULD be.

not only that, you 100% FAIL while trying to make your off-the-mark point. what are fossil fuels made of? answer: thousands of year old decomposed plant and animal matter. what did all plants depend on thousands of years ago? the fucking sun. what did all animals depend on thousands of years ago? other animals, and plants, which depended on the fucking sun.

so even in making your point that we depend on fossil fuels, you are just making my point that we are still simply relying oin the energy of the sun, albeit thousands of year old energy decomposed and shit.

could we feed every human on the face of the earth with the supplies we currently produce? absolutely! why don't we? because lazy americans like their whoppers.

you FAIL for not following my response to a ridiculous statement.

what is marijuana's LD50? Can it be proven?

if they did this, it was to pass cap and trade. Who would be the beneficiaries of all the cap and trade taxes? It sure as hell wouldn't be you and I. Cap and Trade is just another plan to consolidate even more power in the hands of a few.
Yes it can be proven and it does have an LD50. Everything has an LD50, some things just haven't been tested as to what their LD50 is. Here is cannabis' LD50 apparently::eyesmoke:

Beardo is absolutely right about farming and fossil fuels. You probably don't need a tractor for your backyard patch of corn and zucchini, but you sure as hell are going to need one if you're growing 30 acres of it. And each time you plow, transplants, fertilize or apply pesticide you're using more gas or diesel. Also, there's a chance that a lot of the fertilizers and pesticides you're using are going to be based on petroleum products unless you're growing completely organic. But even then, all your wormshit, dried blood and bone meal also needs to get to your farm somehow and I doubt it's being transported by horse-drawn carriage.

This is why gasoline prices are such a big deal. If you raise the cost of fuel, the price of food and pretty everything else goes up. And the truth is that it probably needs to go up...

Can someone who doesn't live in the US tell us how much they pay for a liter of gasoline...?

Hell, even in canada it's like twice the price of here.

When I was stationed in Italy in the early 90's it was over $3 a gallon (I don't remember exactly how much) back then! They did liters, of course, and we had to buy ration books through the military so you were only paying like $1.25 a gallon. Cigarettes, alcohol, kerosene, were all ration items as well. If you didn't smoke or use your kerosene you still bought the books each month because you could sell them on the black market for a small fortune! This was, of course, totally illegal so if you were caught you could get into some serious trouble, but nearly everyone that I knew did it anyway. bongsmilie

my point their was that we are dependant on fossil fuels and as such use more energy each year than the sun produces...and we could not sustain ourselves without doing this...good luck with your fossil fuel free corn....hope the water your using comes from rain and not a well or city source because that would use energy and did you turn the soil with your bare hands? because even just a pick or shovel would take fuel to produce. what will you use to harvest your corn? how will you cook it? everything including you and your computer are using petro and without it we couldnt continue

you said "couldn't"

i could gather rainwater without using fossil fuels.
i could turn soil with my bare hands without using fossil fuels.
i could fashion a pick or shovel without using fossil fuels.
i could harvest the corn by hand without using fossil fuels.
i could cook the water without using fossil fuels.

we could easily leave fossil fuels behind and most likely will at some point in the future.
we could do it tomorrow and although our WAY OF LIFE might change, we AS A PEOPLE would still remain.

WE are not dependent on fossil fuels, just our way of life.

there was a time we lived without it, you know.

Like I said, you are ignorant of the facts. Oil being composed of organic material (old Ancient forests and dinosaurs) is ONLY A THEORY!!

About 5 billion people ago this would be correct, but without OIL the earth cannot support such a large population, period.
Totally agree. Petroleum has improved the quality of human life more than any one substance in the history of all of humanity. If we took petroleum and it's products away tomorrow, in about a month the majority of the civilized world would be dead! Sure there was a time when humans lived without it but humans only lived to be about 30 until the end of the 19th century. We've gotten soft. I often wonder how man lived without air conditioning and I grew up in a house without it! We survived but I couldn't imagine life without it these days. :blsmoke:

y'all are just pessimists! :evil::mrgreen::eyesmoke:

we can and will replace fossil fuels with sustainable technology.

it could even happen while i am still alive to see it.

it could happen tomorrow and although our style of life would change, we would not perish.

and also, i had no idea there were theories of what oil is composed of. so, i was quite wrong to assert myself there, my apologies. care to point me in the right direction where i could do some further reading on it, nodrama? or maybe even just spell it out for my edification? i am not opposed to exploring my own idiocy and improving it to a level of non-idiocy

I agree that we can and will replace fossil fuels with more sustainable means...........just not tomorrow. We should do it but the technology isn't far enough along to make it CHEAPER than fossil fuels at this point. Pessimism aside, this is what it's all about.........the almighty $$. It sucks but we won't make the switch until it becomes more economical to produce energy in a clean and sustainable manner. This day is fast approaching and I believe we (yes even us older fucks) will live to see it. Oil gets a bad rap and perhaps rightfully so, but the facts are it impacts all of us directly and indirectly with nearly every product we use. At this point it would be difficult to live completely off the grid with no attachment to petroleum and it's many products. We're definitely moving in that direction and we're being pushed a little harder right now because of the disaster in the gulf. We will get there but it's gonna take some time. :peace:

But back to the original post.

There isn't a greedy enough oil company on earth that would risk the backlash and huge pr damage, not to mention the pressssssssssssious proooooooooooooofits, by orcistrating this spill delibrately.

Will it be used as an opportunistic reason for further regulations/taxes/restrictions/policies/public influence/scams/scare tactics/sky-is-falling-sceneraios?
I think we all know the answer to that is yes.
