we can debate your idea that global warming is an elaborate hoax any day.
I do have a sure fire solution!

Stuff some nukes down the gullet of an unstable, active ash spewing volcano (not the hot runny Kilauea type, won't work).

Mt Pinatubo proved it; throwing volcanoes solves global warming. Just ignore the other side effects...

Eloquently put. I think it's deeper than 'rightie', it's a base state of human experience. These people have decided that there is nothing left they need to learn and so once they've 'set', in the concrete sense of the word, there's no changing them, even in the face of obvious miscalculation.

Since I value flexibility, adaptability and the willingness to reexamine my assumptions based on new data, I find that I don't tend to see eye to eye with this personality type much... just in case you hadn't already noticed.

Oh yeah, you're talking about "progress."

You know, making changes for the better, because if they were not better then we would not want to make them. That seems to me to be common sense.

But mention anything sensible to a conservative, and they will resist it, and then actually defend keeping the old way. To me, that means that they don't have enough foresight to recognize what is better. I'd say foresight is a product of intelligence, and the "non-progressives" are lacking.

As much as I'd like to find a hole in your logic, I'm afraid I find your assessment airtight. How else to explain a large segment of the population that can be reliably counted upon to vote for politicians who will act AGAINST their own personal interests?!

Ahhhh right, and with this pre-disposition you claim to have an open mind. If your starting point is the belief expressed above you not only cannot make that claim but it shows a knowledge of the right only taught by those ignorant of it.
