The VO Grow #2

Bigger gnarlier roots vs a mass of smaller roots. More surface area to absorb (smaller roots) or more volume of flow inside root (bigger roots) ???

hey vo, i have another question. my trichomes are 75% red on lower branches and 50% on big buds, should i put it on no nutes for a week? or is it ready for harvest, or do you think i should still 12/12 for 8 weeks. this is the end of week 6 0f 12/12. thanks.

If you want a more "finished" couch-lock, let it go for 8. If you want a more mild sativa like high, go ahead and flush now and pull on week 7. It's all about personal preference really, I like to have at least 40% (sometimes 60%) amber trichs.

There's a real good thread talking about when to harvest somewhere around here... it essentially says the whole amber/cloudy ratio is a bunch of bullocks because each strain is going to produce a different ratio... I'm only on my first grow but personally i think the color of the trichs shouldnt matter as long as the rest of the bud is mature... just my newbie .02

edit: here's a thread that shows pics based on "ripeness" not trich ratio, not the thread i was looking at but informational nonetheless.

Your concern is good though.. the highly delicate art of knowing when to pull is something that will come to you over time. When trichs start turning amber, they start deteriorating, so I usually pull before they get half way amber.. and I feel comfortable that it's close enough to max THC levels. Different parts of the plant will have different amounts of amber.. so try to guess total amber percentage instead of just looking at one spot or whatever.

There is no set time or number of weeks in 12/12 that says your buds are done. There are a lot of variables. Before you go and chop your plant think about this. Lets say we are growing apples. Do we pick the apples because they have been growing for a set amount of time or do we wait till they are ripe then pick them? Are all the apples on the tree ripe at the same time???? No they are not. That's why we don't pick them all at the same time. Well the same goes for buds. I usually wait till I see a very noticeable change in the look of the buds and the plant in general. That change is mostly in the color of the buds. I don't have a guess on % of amber trichs and any guess would be just that a guess. I know how I like em and that's what I look for. Like I said about the apples there not all ripe at the same time neither are buds. I harvest the tops and leave the rest to grow a few more days or weeks until they are ready. It's some thing you have to learn over the years. Nothing about growing is carved in stone. There are many on here that have read a lot of books about growing Me Well I've done a lot of growing LOL

I had to clip off the dying starting leaves on BC1.. I'm not sure why but they were already dying, which may be because the plant starting using those nutrients in those leaves. Other than that it's fine, got roots starting up everywhere and I filled in the hydroton so it could get another inch on top of the rockwool.

The picture makes the leaves look yellow.. but it's just the camera and the light.

mine sprouted within 4 hours of each other, but one is alot bigger than the other. the first leaves on the small one are dying.

Well you could do like I did, wait til they're at least a couple weeks old and clip the dying leaves, that way they don't try and repair em. I think it's worth it in the end, but clipping those leaves even this early will still stunt some growth for a few days.

i think any 'stunting' will be negligible, especially this early in the game. it's definitely worth noting for future grows and the edification of the masses.

Looks like our girls are close in age - I'm subbed to keep an eye on our respective grows; if you encounter issues, I'd certainly like to know what they are and how you approach 'em. Peace.

I already encountered some kind of deterioration on some lower leaves that's stunted growth.. Clipped those leaves off, and she's doing fine.

I think I might have a slight potassium deficiency on BC2, so I'm going to add the recommended dose of bloom for veg stage (which I normally don't have to do.. weird.)
