I keep mine ontop of the soil under the plants, with the fans blowing it seems to show the best average for the space.

I try to keep my thermometer and hygrometer in the canopy. About where your white one hangs. That's the area that's getting the most stress wherein I may have to intervene. So that's where I keep it.

Well then how are you getting an accurate reading of the temps in the canopy
I have a fan blowing directly on my bulb 600 watt HPS, that air is blowing across the bulb and hood and to my exhaust, two more fans are blowing air up from the floor, So I just figured thats my average. The intensity of the light at the top gives me a false reading of my room temp, in all actuality to get a accurate average you would need 3. One on top of the room, one at canopy and one on the floor... divide for your average.... but thats just not nessisary for me to worry about ya know?

My 1000 is air cooled with a radiant 6 with a 6 inch inline 440 cfm over the bulb and got a big oscillating fan in the back blowing all over the tent

I keep my probes and thermometers spread around my room and under the hoods but more than anything I prefer to use a infrared thermometer as it lets me know what my plants surface temps are verses the air in the room :)

What temperature do you personally not like to exceed for soil grow? I kinda get nervous at 85ish the dirt seems to dry quite fast and I am still holding a seedling that just freshly sprouted first grow, lol kinda nervous to even goto sleep. I keep it at around 80 in soil have no problem lowering or raising temp in box/room just don't have the feel, checking temp every 20-30 mins with IR like I have OCD lol.

I used to keep a thermometer/hygrometer near the canopy, but took it out after the batteries ran out. Nothing really changes. I keep a similar device outside the room to keep an eye on the ambient temps/humidity. I do use a laser thermometer on occasion and would recommend one to other growers. It gives an instant readout as to the temp anywhere in the room, even on a leaf. Very useful.

I was kinda scared to point mine directly on her but it does give quite accurate readings, my brother is electrician so I just happened to have one laying around the house, never needed one myself lol. Useful for sure, probably one of the most useful tools for a first time grower for accurate real time readings of temps.

A bit of sacrilege. I don't use thermometers. They scare me.

When I walk in to check the flowers at 4:00 in the afternoon, it's really hot. Really hot. If I put a thermometer in there, it says generally 98 degrees at 4:00 pm. That scares me.

But my girls don't seem to mind.

So I took the thermometers out and I don't use them anymore. Forgive the heresy.
