Not any more energy, quite the opposite.
how do you think it a plan catches all that light to photosynthesize and turn into food for itself?
Surface area is the name of the game, the more he better.
Think those itty bitty sugar leaves are doing anything for the plant?
Hell no, she gets most her nourishment off those fans.
However, later in flower cutting some higher up fans will give you more light to the lower down popcorn, and swell that up a bit.

I chop 'em off the main stem, sometimes from some branches.
I also remove entire colas when dealing with sativas (space restrictions)

I cut off the lower branches on mine this year to help with air flow they're looking great. The only thing that I'm worried about is mold.. its been really humid this summer.

Yea I would say leave then alone uunless your dealing with mold and it's a real bushy plant then I would say thin it out jus think of each leaf a solar panel for a city the more solar panels the more energy the more energy to grow in this case! But when your dealing with mold it changes a little bit that's how I look at it. Hope this helps

bot-photosynthesis-chart.giftake a look at this little chart, revert back to your 6th grade science classroom. Those leaves are far more of an asset to the plant, than they are a problem
