thinking about making a stealth pc grow box

i got a pc box in my basement, im thinking about gutting it out, putting in carbon filters and fans, hooking up some CFL lights, but ive got some questions,
1- What strain should i use, highest yield and pretty good quality that i can actually grow inside such a small confined space?
2- What kind of CFL lights? I was thinking about doing 3 or 4 50watters, possibly smaller
3- What kind of tips do you got for a first time grower? That you have learned from first hand experience

Well...I can tell you from experience, do not use the PC..its pointless. Go with something bigger like an old cabinet thats at least 4 to 5 feet high. And for the rest of the info, just search the web. google.com is a good place to start.

it's not totally pointless, but i definitely wish i had more space. what are the dimensions of the case? i fit four 23 watt bulbs in mine. i'm just using bagseed and if you use scrog or lst you can increase your yield greatly

Its not pointless if you have a large case like me. I'm actually growing a sativa dominant strain, White russian. Seems to be doing great Im using 1 gal pots, I've seen people flower there plants in Red plastic cups. 3-4 24 watt bulbs is fine, I use 3 because 4 seems to heat up my case pretty bad and 3 keeps the temps at 72-76, considering a few more fans . As for tips I really suggest you don't fuck with the plants, move them around and shit, dont get high before working in the pc case, things are very tight. Ive had my thermometer fall on a seedling, Even though it recovered and showed new growth in a few days Its still a waste of a few days. Use fox farm ocean forest soil and begin giving nutrients at about 30 days. If you decide to go with a PC case because it seems right for you, go ahead. I have one and it works fine but i'd rather have a larger cab, and use my pc case for vegging. My case is 26.5" btw Ive seen people use way shorter and have no problems though. Hope this helps ya man

not pointless at all. even with a small pc case you can harvest 20-30 grams with a bit of experience. this forum is filled with threads of people who are pulling pretty good yields for personal use with a pc case, myself included.

i would check out northern lights #5 from nirvana.... stays short flowers fast nice yield...not the greatest bud ever but she will be very forgiving to a new grower. whatever strain you do go with...id stay with the cheap seeds for your first grow. lighting should be fine. use a mix of 65k and 27K CLFs. after germination start the seeds with 24hr of light for the first two weeks. cut down to 18/6 for week 3 and then go 12/12 to start flowering...u wana flower as soon as u have roots developed, because you'll have so little space to work with. do not! do not! do 12/12 from seed thats jus a trend that somhow got started on this fourm and whatever its not best for the plant. LST is a great thing to use with small grows. any old 100% organic soil from home-depot or the local greenhouse will do jus fine. but stay away from mirical grow or any other soil that says stuff like "feeds for 3 months" never show or tell anyone about your grow. its just like sniching on your self. an tha las thing any of us wana be isa snich. one last thing growing is never pointless!

PM me if u get her goin and need help!

xclio pc case, with a 125 watt cfl I was pulling 21g-30 grams a plant my avatar was grown that way, fuck the haters,I have however moved on to bigger things, but still as long as its 60 cm tall min it will be all good :)

Oh and sativa heavy hybrids, from 12/12 from seed work best, my best 2 being cheesewreck and chemmy jones, only indicas I did failed as all indica heavy plants need 4 weeks veg minimum but I was experimenting n seeds dont cost me much,if I do pay for them.

I've never grown in a PC box per se, but the main thing when growing in such a small space is to control VERTICAL height. So ideally you'll start with some short squat indica dominant plant that doesn't stretch too much during flowering or get too tall. Look into the autoflowers, because many of those are "dwarf" plants designed to stay small.

Obviously, you're not going to get a lot of yield from such a small confined space. So if you start off with that expectation, you won't be disappointed. Also, the first time you're growing, you're going to be in the shallow part of the learning curve. I'd focus on learning about how to build the box, grow the plant, sex it, train it, keep it fed and watered, recognize when to harvest, do the harvest, and drying. Each one of these things takes experience. After you've done all of them 1-2 times and get used to your system you can try to maximize yield.

2- What kind of CFL lights? I was thinking about doing 3 or 4 50watters, possibly smaller
If you're talking about the actual draw of those bulbs, 200 watts will put out WAY too much light/heat for a box that small. Figure you want around 100 watts actual draw of CFL light for what's going to amount to a 1.5 square foot grow area. If you're only growing one plant, you can even get away with less, though obviously yield may be lower.

If you wanted to go "tech" you could probably squeeze in a 70W HPS setup, for better results, but that's going to depend on your wallet thickness, as well as wiring/building skills.

The conventional wisdom is to use "blue" 2700 or 3000K bulbs for veg growth and "warm"/"daylight" 6500k bulbs for flowering, though you could use 6500s all the way through if you had to.

If you're using bulbs with actual 50 watt (or close) draws, try two of them. 4 26 watt draw CFLs will probably be cheaper and will give you a little more flexibility in both arranging them, and using different spectra, and I think in practice, that's how most of these PC grows are done.

3- What kind of tips do you got for a first time grower? That you have learned from first hand experience
-Don't overfertilize.

-Limiting factor, again, is going to be vertical height. Make sure you read up on "LST" (low stress training) and "SCROG" (screen of green) methods to help control vertical height.

-Try to keep temps inside your box under 85F when the lights are running. Good ventilation is not optional here, its mandatory.

-Be cautious about smell and light leaks.

Disagree.

Once you get it dialed in, its definitely possible to pull a full ounce every 60-90 days from a setup like this, and if you're a "weekend" type smoker, that may actually be more bud than you ever need.

If you figure that an ounce of even mediocre weed can run you $300, it seems pretty plain to me that even ONE decent harvest will pay for itself here, not to mention the convenience of not having to "score".
