This pretty much says it all on "reconciliation"

Okay so they pass it into law. Who will then still say no thanks or fuck you? I will. I won't be participating, won't be paying for it and won't be using it. They will have to lock me up, sort of an irony there since they think the passage of the bill is for my own good. I'll decide what's for my own good. Anybody else?

Or you could douse yourself with gasoline in front of the whitehouse and flick your bic.

The nuclear option does not refer to reconciliation. it does refer to an attempt by the repubs back in 2005 to change senate rules. it wasn't about reconciliation.

so the video is not about reconciliation, it is about changing senate rules on the filibuster.

Fox news, of course, is the primary force attempting to redefine the term. They like how it sounds.

A reconciliation bill in the early 80's made cuts to welfare programs and raised taxes.. A 1985 bill established the Cobra health-insurance program.

Many big bills were passed under reconciliation -– the deficit-reduction bills of 1990 and 1993, for instance. Welfare changes and the Children’s Health Insurance Program both passed under reconciliation.

Bush’s big tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 also passed under reconciliation even though they reduced government revenues instead of balancing the budget.

Republicans argue that the reconciliation process should only be used for bipartisan bills, and since they refuse to vote on health reform, Democrats can't get a vote.

Reconciliation HAS NOT been limited to bipartisan bills. The 1995 Balanced Budget Act was passed in reconciliation. The final vote was 52 to 47. The 2001 Bush Tax Cut was passed in reconciliation. The final vote was 58 to 33. The 2003 Bush Tax Cut was passed in reconciliation. The final vote was 50 to 50, with Dick Cheney casting the tie-breaking vote. The 2005 Deficit Reduction Act was also passed in reconciliation with a 50 to 50 vote and a Cheney intervention. The 2006 Tax Relief Extensions Act was passed in reconciliation. The final vote was 54 to 44. If bills had overwhelming bipartisan majorities, they wouldn't need to go through reconciliation.

Republicans controlled the Senate during each and every one of these bills.

It took them the Louisiana Purchase and the Cornhusker Kickback to get this far. Who can be surprised they are willing to throw the rules overboard to decree a bill the people clearly don't want? Now Obama has appointed the brother of a fence-sitting congressman to an appeals court seat.

the Cornhusker Kickback has been scrapped. Nice try.

"they" are not throwing rules - "they" are abiding by the rules in the same manner the Republicans have done in the past.

there is a vast majority who want health reform.

it sure does look like obama's buying votes. the appointment is qualified. unlike bush's appointments to various posts. go Brownie.

Ironically enough the people that would benefit most from this are the ones that are against it, as mental health is included in the governments package.

NOBODY who needs this 'Health Bill' will truly benefit..only the ones who stand to make money from it. And the reference to the pathetic 'Cobra Bill' is a perfect example of a horrible bill that only benefits a FEW. Really... stop and think for one moment...if you LOSE your JOB (for what ever reason) you are allowed thru the COBRA act to continue your health coverage...at a RATE THAT IS 2-3 times HIGHER than what you were paying when you had it in the first place. What a crock of shit. SHOW US some low to middle class persons who can really AFFORD to pay those kinds of rates for continued health coverage when they lose their jobs. You can't. PERIOD. This so-called 'Health Bill' is the same song and dance. The SAME government who STILL LISTS cannabis as a 'Schedule 1 drug' (this is above crack and cocaine) is trying to 'help you' with a better solution to the health crisis. Please...

LOL! So has that 60th vote been retracted too? They bought the Nebraska vote, it was delivered, and now they are not paying for it. And THAT is supposed to make it "more" honorable? The repeated buying of votes, the trashing of rules, the strong-arm tactics - this is all just Chicago thug-style politics brought to Washington. Had enough yet?

So basically you're saying the current system is fucked up and weed is a schedule 1 drug. Good argument.

oh, this is not new to Washington. this is exactly how politics has functioned in Washington since day 1. you can't blame the game on Obama.

if you really believe that Obama brought Chicago to Washington and changed everything in 12 months your are either delusional or, more likely, just another right-wing nut job making shit up.

Not sure what you're implying...
If you are questioning my mental health, I'd ask why?

What is wrong with leaving people alone and expecting the same? You see the bill as helpful, good for you, then you should be free to participate.

I see the bill as invasive, coercive and nanny state. I should be free NOT to participate.

If you believe others should make your choices for you, that's fine by me.

What is your objection to ME making MY choices? What is your objection to me running my own life?

You're getting a little testy. That's what comes from knowing your side has its ass hanging out a mile and is about to get clocked.
