Tidy- cat hydro tomato

the beefsteak has 3 flowers about to open up she is holding steady at 3 ft. & starting to branch a bit the homestead is a bushier plant but no blooms yet

we are getting hotter weather this week & first day over 100 degrees wilted them severely but next day they seem to be pulling out of it beefsteak is gonna produce first I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of this family & friends alike marvel at them it's a lot less work than gardening in soil

the blossom on the beefsteak is 3x the size of anything in my garden I'm thinking it's going to produce large tomatoes the homestead although shorter & stockier is starting to develop blooms as well getting a lot of fun out of this

Lmao! I thought I was the only one.lol.. I've made top feed systems using a 3 gallon tidy cat bucket with lots of holes and placed it in the 5 Gallon with a small fountain pumpThen filled it with hydroton . bamb top feed , worked awesomely.
In fact here's a little one made from a folgers can, well a cambo bubble bucket/top feed

Your tomatoes are jamming and looking good

Looking good I love little projects that have a happy outcome I save those folgers containers too just returned from a camping trip I'll update photos later today

plants are growing it seems to take forever for the blooms to turn into tomatoes

they seem slow to advance from bloom to growing fruit I started mixing them their own first run nutes instead of using leftovers maybe that will help

they're about 5 ft. tall & im waiting for the yellow blooms to make tomatoes

I moved them to the patio in an effort to give them more direct sunlight they didn't take the move well but are starting recuperate finally I got my first tomato & have blooms everywhere

now I have 6 little tomatoes kicking off

it's funny I've grown tomatoes off & on most of my adult life but I've never fully understand their lifecycle it seems like they are auto flowers as I planted the homestead about 1 week behind the beefsteak from seed & true to form I've got my first homestead tomato about a week behind the beefsteak so now in hydro I've got 6 beefsteaks & 1 homestead I'm starting to enjoy this

trimmed a lot of the damaged growth the beefsteak is producing more tomatoes than I can count somewhere close to a dozen & I keep finding more next year I'm gonna start seeds in early February

the tomatoes keep popping

still getting tomatoes as the season winds down

Your tomatoes look great. I tried hydro tomatoes outside last year. It turned into work. I made the mistake of doing 10 in 5 gal buckets... i ended up giving away flats of tomatoes.

it's a cool experience & I had a pot plant in the middle but chopped I will do this again in the spring
