Tips on faster vegging?

I'm growing Blacljack and it has been vegging for 25 days and is only 5 in tall. this is my first indoor grow and i tried t make a perfect setup. I am using a 400W MH Hortilux with a Cool tube and inline fan exhausting into attic. It is positioned 10 in from tops of my 4 plants. The temp is usually around 85F and humidity at 45%. The plants are in 3 gallon smart pots with a 70/30 mix of CannaCoco to perlite. Have been feeding nutes every other watering, using Canna nute system. the grow is in a 4x2x8 closet and the walls are covered with mylar. I water my plants every two days to 10% runoff with RO water at 5.8pH. Leaves are nice and green and i havent had any problems
I have read many blackjack logs that have resulted in much more growth by 25 days. Is there anything that I could be doing different to increase the rate of growth of my plants? I have 8 feet of height space and i'd like to get these plants big and harvested ASAP. +rep for good advice ;):peace:

What your water retention like? I have a similar mixture and growing in 1.75 gallon square pots and i usually dont start watering every other day until they are in week 2 of flowering. But your pots are double the size of mine.

it's not always every other dau. i just wait until the top layer is a little dry, Uncle Ben says wet/dry cycles are bad, and to always keep it moist. that's basically what i do. it's prob more like every 3 days for the most part

i grow in straight coco and water with nuets 6 times a day and mine grow crazy. i have never added pertile so i dont no how that changes things. i never flush with straight water.

are you running your waterings to waste?

so even if i just watered them and they are very moist, i can rewater with nutes again? perlite just increases drainage

Hey bro whats up? I can tell you with a lot of certainty that your plants are too hot. You need to get that temperature down from 85 degrees to 75 degrees with 2-3 degree spike or drops throughout the day. 85 degrees is way way too hot. Also be careful not too over water or over feed with nutrients. A good rule of thumb is to water every 2-3 days but always stick your finger 2 inches into the soil before you water and if its still moist then wait to water. Also feed every other time you water so if you water every 2-3 days you should give nutes every 5-6 days. Over watering, feeding too many nutes, and not enough ventilation to keep temp's down are three very common noob mistakes. I made all those mistakes on my first few grows and I'm sure many expert growers did this also when they first started out so don't feel too bad. Anyhow thats my advice and i'm pretty sure once you fix the temp and don't over water and feed then things will start to look good pretty quick. Good Luck Bro!

One last thing that may help is that your light may be too close to your plants which is why they are too hot? 10 inches away seems close? With 400watt's most people keep their lights 18-30 inches away. Anyhow that might also help. Good Luck!

i was just looking at your journal ur thermometer if thats where you keep it...ur really gonna want to move it more to a shaded area otherwise ur temps will always run hot...ur getting direct heat from the light...keep the fan blowing between the top of the canopy and the light...if you do re-pot go with FF OF works great for me...

He is using a cooltube and its only a 400w bulb, he could easily have it 10-14 inches away especially with fans and/or ac in the room as well (get your room temp down).

i strongly disagree with people telling u to water ever 2 or 3 days. you are not growing in soil u are growing in hydro. your growing medium has not ferts in it. i grow in straight coco and feed every 4 hours with nutes run to watse. if you are not feeding them atleast a few times a day then your really slowling your growth down. its really hard to overwater with coco so you wont have any issues.
