To much perlite?

Im mixing my organic choice soil and perlite today, I know 30% is the ratio for the perlite. But is there any known problems that can be caused by to much perlite? Seeing as how it is all by eyeball and 30% will be hard to hit right on the head(specially high):blsmoke:

It doesn't have to be exact, I like 40% to 50% perlite. Too much perlite is almost impossible, youre soil will just dry faster.

Is it Miracle-Gro perlite by any chance? If so, read the bag. Those fuckers put ferts in the God damned perlite! That's why I finally went with vermiculite (Sta-Green is the only brand I can find right now), because I don't want shit added that I didn't approve!

Fuck, It is miracle-gro perlite. And it has a breakdown .04 .01 .06 Can this have a negative effect if used? Or should i just not nute the seedling for a few weeks

You're probably ok with that..the only bad (if) thing with pro-mix (I use this) or perlite is that it may need more water as it drys quick..which is why you use it to avoid root rot... Luck

what do you think seamaiden?
I think maybe just rinse it through really well, maybe soak it or something to get that shit out. I think that may be a cause of some of MY nutrient burn when I'm not giving nutes to certain plants (I experiment and give and withhold certain things to measure their effects). Or, if it's close by and the bag's not opened, take it back and get something clean. Or, just remember that you have to factor that in as well, which I now have to do because I have a lot of soil that I mixed with perlite having not read the damned bag BEFORE I purchased. SHEESH!
(Remember to read the labels, man, right up there with RTFM! )

I want more control than that, that's my deal. It's why I do a lot of the things I do the way I do them. Does that make sense?

(I even get pissed that I can't find non-anti-bacterial hand and body soaps, and can't find moisturizers that don't already have SPF built into them, shit like that.)

True control is everything. Im not going to soak or try to "cure" the nutes out of the perlite. Im just going to factor that in to my nuting. i prolly wont nute for 3 weeks because of the nutes in the perlite. You think that will take care of the issue

I say take it back and get plain perlite rather than roll the dice. Nothing will be more frustrating than nuking your babies and not being able to do anything about it.

oh the other thing about that nute perlite is that it is intended for use in potting soil at much lower concentrations than you will be using ... so i wouldn't trust that it will give you the right dosage.

Keep in mind that Vermiculite absorbs water and therefore makes soil moister, longer whereas Perlite helps drain off water or helps to maintain passageways for more air flow.
