To Transplant or not to Transplant

I have 12 gals going in 16oz cups right now. They are 2 weeks old. I figure they are probably getting close to root bound already but here is my problem. I am going to finish them in 1 gallon pots but I dont want to waste the soil on males.

So I wanted to switch to 12/12 now & then only transplant the females to bigger pots.

Will I be able to wait till they sex before I transplant?

My grow space is only 4x4x6 so the end size of my plants even with LST is an issue lol.

I'll try to snap a picture tonight. They are very small. They are about the diameter of the cup and nice and bushy. I had my friend start them when I was on vacation & I came back to seedlings that were so stretched it was scary. So I transplanted them and covered many many inches of baby stem with soil lol so they are a bit stunted.

give them 1or2 full dys of dark then go 12]12 and the males will shw sex with in a couple days
I didn't know that, thanks!

I ran home on my lunch break and slid one out of the cup. The roots were visible but in no way was it root bound. I am still going to try to leave them in the 16oz cups until they sex but ill check the roots every other few days.

i like to let plants get a little "root bound" before i transplant that way its super easy to take the whole chunk of soil and roots right out of the pot and throw it in its new home
