Too cheap to be good?

That's expensive for a 400 watter man. I set the kit options (addons that you can purchase) the same as a 400 watt Ipower kit with HPS, MH bulbs, hangers, reflector, timer and two year warranty on ebay and the HTG kit you were looking at is 100.00 more even without the MH bulb.

I know people say Ipower sucks but you can get a full, ready to run kit on ebay for about 110.00 and they give you a two year warranty. It's hassle free, I've had to use it (after getting well worth my money out of the item) and they are real good about making things right.

If you're getting the same light penetration and intensity and you get a great warranty, you're just paying any extra for a brand. Check out hpsgrowlightstore on ebay, for the price of that HTG kit you could probably get a 600 or 1000 watter if you don't care about branding.

Also keep an eye out for these two features:

1. Dimable light settings i.e. 100%, 75%, 50% They can be very helpful when used by itself and used more often when using it in conjunction with other light sources.1

2. Switchable bulbs i.e. MH and PHS....

Amazon had a full 400 watt light setup with a switchable magnetic ballast, wing reflector, bulb, rope ratchet set, and timer for $69 and free shipping.

I bought 2:blsmoke:

For the OP thats the exact setup I've been running now going on 3 years. I have 2 of them. I use better hoods but other than that these 400 ballasts might not be the cheapest you can find, but even though I'm not the biggest HTG fan, their quality is certainly serviceable.

I have to say the ipower 400 watt setup is a bargin and have no complaints except for the lower end MH & Hps bulbs included. Awesome setup for growers getting started! Still using it as part of my garden.

Might just be knocking the quality issue here .........but.......fk me that ballast looks more like a fkn CAR BATTERY rather than a light ballast......in the UK you can get a SUNMASTER 600 digi dimmable with duel spec bulb and Euro winged reflector for £110....I have 2of these with upgraded adjustwing reflector(add £45 to) and they r fkn brill.......also imo the best ballast I have bought to date would be anouther 600 digi I also use.... AN I SUN PRO 600 (century systems)dimmable with built in timer fkn great ballast........has been run on 12/12 CONSTANTLY for 16 months with zero probs......
