ok bear with me guys... yes i realize i'm new at this so try not to beat me down too bad, haha

i have constructed a grow box that stands about 2 1/2 feet tall and 3 feet wide, i have an intake fan and an exhuast fan.... ok here's where i think i messed up... i have 14, yes thats right 14 23w cfls hanging over my 2 little guys (maybe a week old)

did i overkill with the lighting? i have a thermometer inside the box and its showing 90' but is that radiant heat from the bulbs? i also have another thermometer constantly reading the exhuast vent temp and that says only 80'-82'

i'll get some pics up in a little bit but can anybody help me with if those temps are too high and do you think i have too much lighting

u have alot of cfl's for 2 plants , thats good tho , but 90 degrees hmm u should take some out for now , if its too hot they might die , but use ur judgement , if they start to turn yellow or wilt then it is too hot if not then ull be ok

thanks for the quick feedback... i figured it was going to be too much light for such a small area and build some heat but didnt know it was going to be this hot, i did notice something... i have my intake at the top by the lights and the exhaust at the bottom by the plants, i think the airflow is taking the heat from the lights and passing it across my plants and thermometer, i'll change it around so the fresh cool air goes into the bottom and exhausts thru the top across the lights, think this will help?

sorry for the newb questions

i think i will take your advice and remove a couple lights (maybe only use 8) until i get some more germinated and into the box

yes change ur setup , ur right about the heat being pulled across the plants , keep the exhaust and intake on top , member heat rises basic chem 101

Yes... you answered yourself.... radiant heat....these bulbs are like 140-155 degrees and if you are surrouning the plants they are smothering....how close are they placed from the plants? You would be better off with a 100w HPS....and have you added all those watts up....I was on the same path...but saw the light...so to speak...I went HPS and WOW....plants are healthier...and power bill dropped 70 bucks last month...and I do not need all the extra fans....just my thoughts and what works for me.

90f is too hot. You are going to get heat stress then root rot. Dissolved oxygen drops as the temp increases. Chance of mold and spider mite reproduction skyrocket.

All not good.

You could decrease lights and increase light efficiency. I just freakin' posted on a cab I built using 150w CFL w/fluoro for 6 clones.

removed a couple of bulbs and switched the airflow around... i now have eight gleamin' on them and its hanging around 80' with 38% humidity... sitting about 5" from the top

i changed my setup... using dual fans for exhaust and bigger fresh air vent from the bottom of the box... i get good temps with all 14 lights on around 72'-73' and about 50% humidity, any comments or suggestions would be nice, thanks guys this site has helped me out tremendously... best thing about it that i only have about $50.00 invested
