Topdressing Fox Farm Ocean Forest?

when i used to grow in ffof only id just add more soil with a compost mix. grew nice fat buds. i would add an extra calmag source though. (coconut water) straight from a coconut diluted with your water and a proper ph. epsom salts will kill benea in your soil if you go that method

Got about 3 wks worth of nutes in it. Maybe a bit more with a small plant in a big container.
i wouldnt say that. i ran a 5 ft tall jack herer in a 5 gallon bucket only adding compost once at the end of flower. it has plenty of nutes and may add she yeilded almost half pound inside a closet under a 450w viparspectra led and a root farm 45w led.

That has not been my experience. Been using it for 12 yrs. I have proper size plants in proper containers. After 3 or 4 wks I'll start with deficiencies.

Where to get cheap calmag ?
buy a coconut at the grocery store get the water out mix about 1 tbsp with about 2l of water. theres your cal mag and potassium +growth enzymes etc.

if you dont care about ypur soil beneficial microbes u could add epsom salt tp your water. but it kills microbes

Should i worry about the Ph of the coconut water?

yes thats why you only use tbsp per 2l or so. check your ph before watering. coconut water on its own is anywhere from 3.8 to 5.0 ish usually 4.8 though. mixed with your tap which is usually slightly alkaline will balance the mixture close to the 6.5 range.

that seems odd i do see alot of people say its too hot for seedlings showing alotnof wuick release nitrogen that run out but never experienced it myself. though i havent used this stuff 12 years long lol. now i mix it with a bunch of other soils/ amendments like happy frog sohum and a list of 400 organic amendments.

Idk. I do cut it with 25% perlite, so not full strength. But still. Def the nitrogen, phosphorus too. I tranplant to final pot right after flip. They're always wanting N at some point, even with bloom nutes.

400? Woah, thats alot. What are some of your best/favorite ones?

Ignoring the fact that some phenos/strains are more hungry than others, the environment also plays a roll (lights, root to foliage ratio, root mass, temp, water quality ect ect) will make plants eat differently so keep that in mind when some say you can go all the way and some say you cant.

Fwiw, i used to only grow in amended ffof and would add compost or ewc, perlite & 100ml of 9 different dry nutes per gallon of soil, 15 gallons (5 pots) under 1000w would run me about 6-8 weeks before fading.

Hope this helps & if you want to know what I added just PM me.

Hopefully not necro'ing this thread too hard. I wanted to ask if anyone tried the above method with FFOF. When/how often you added the tea & coconut water solution? I am running a clone in straight FFOF as a test run in preparation to start running autos in a few months. I am trying to keep it simple as possible, Thanks in advance.

The 400 amendments and him not top dressing at all for the whole grow in 1 5 gal pot
I mean 400 did sound like quite a bit, but I believe he said he topdressed with more soil, mixed in with some compost, which sounds feasible. The part I don't agree with, is epsom killing soil microbes. If it does, it isn't much.

Oh I though he meant he didn't top dress at all only until the end of flower with compost, cause every noob knows to not add any nuts after the last 4 to 3 weeks to get a natural flush
If you're growing in no till living soil, you need to add amendments throughout the cycles, so your soil has nutrition for the next run.

I add Gypsum and Lime to my ffof, 1 tblspn per gallon of soil. I top dress with Triple Super Phosphate, Osmocote Plus and Humic Acid. I water in 1/2 tsp calmag every watering except the last couple of weeks.

There is zero need to hyperload different amendments when doing a “ top dress “ - by adding a couple cups of fresh FFOF it will recharge the host medium without the unnecessary add-ins.

Not only will the fresh soil aid in replenishing what the plant used - it will also recharge the buffering ( shocking i know  ) with fresh oyster shell . PLUS - plant will NOT be introduced to elements it wasn’t already acclimated too.

Throwing the kitchen sink at a plant is overkill.
Adding cal mag to water is unnecessary since it can buffer tap. Add kelp to the water instead.
