topping is beneficial if you have limited vertical space. some will tell you it gives you more main colas and therefore, greater yield, but while you do get more colas, your yield does not increase.
you stress the plant out by chopping its top off at an early stage. you're better off using LST or supercropping. at least with those methods, you are not getting rid of good growth nor stressing your plant out.
