So I have heard things regarding topping your plants to increase yeild and decrease overall height. Here is a picture i was given and Im not sure what its saying.. do you snip an actual branch or are you making an incision into the center stem?

:?

I keep asking it in my grow journal but no one ever responds to it.

alright, what it's showing is the plant after it's been topped, there used to be a stem and leaves there. now, you can either cut the stem off, or you can cut it up a bit higher than the stem to the petioles(leaf stems) to FIM it. So, yeah, just snip off the branch, no incision.

people always try to top to early. they go way up into the very top and try to snip just the top. i just let it get a little taller then top it at the second node down from the top. you want to actually cut clean thru the whole stem leaving all the lower branches.

Cut the very top of the plant. Like give it a flat top, but not to far down the top of the plant It will cause the main branch to grow 2 shoots instead of 1 shoot. Youll get more
bud sites but they may be smaller than the main cola if it were left uncut.

I was confused on this for awhile, even though it really is simple. The key is that you will see new growth coming from either side of the main stem, you want to cut the stem out leaving the new growth that was on either side. That is what helped me understand exactly how it was done.

that's when I prune them, I tried to upload a proper pic of where to cut it, but I failed. But, in between the top two leaves that are nice and full, where a new set of leaves is coming out. cut it there, on the stem.

I think it should be a bit taller to top it. Maybe 2 more nodes. Then you can cut the top node right off. Clone it if you want too. :peace:

i cut off the top 4 nodes and use it for a clone.

why does everyone try to top at the very tippy toppy? i don't get it. go down 2 nodes. not you katie, just people in general.

I have tried the very tipp tip and it makes for a small growing clone. You are right at least 4 nods for a strong clone. :peace:
