Watch the smart pots. I read a post last week they weren't draining well. But as far as transplanting. It's not about how big the plant is. It's about the ROOT system. You don't want them to get root bound. You should be able to tell by how fast they dry out. You'll notice you have to water more frequently. Roots coming out the bottom is another sign. You don't want it to reach that point.

Ahh I see! yes there are lil roots poking out the bottom. should I trasplant into a 3 gal or into its final 5 gal smart pot

Well again that's up to you. I go 1 gallon straight to 5 gallon squat pots. So I only get about an inch of depth but I get a good 3 inches around. Personally I push mine as long as I can in the 1 gallon. Without harming the growth. I want that medium mass full of roots. For me I know it's time to transplant when the plants can't make it 48 hours between watering. This way when I do transplant there are plenty of roots around the sides. Because that's where I want them to go when I transplant. I try to time it so it's about 2 weeks before I want to flip to 12/12. So the stress has passed and the roots are getting a firm grip in the new soil. This way those roots are thriving and expanding while the plant is stretching. By time they start producing the whole medium is full of roots. Basically I've reverse engineered my grow so that they are nearing root bound at the end of flower. Because I cut my soilless mix 50/50 with perlite. My goal is to have my medium hold water for no more than 48 hours during peak flowering. I also get a lot more air in the soil more often.

can you tell us more . your goal and what lighting and watts . how big you want to veg ? your space . lot of people use 3 gallon pots veg 1.5 foot tall . 5 gallon pot veg 3 foot tall .

ok I'm a first time poster and grower. and was wondering if you can transplant during the flowering stage? I'm only in my second weed of flower. still no buds but will this cause me to loose my plant or will it just take it longer in its flowering stage?

I can tell you I have a 7g smart pot and having horrible drainage problems I've had to rip long slashes in the bottom and lower sides to get water to drain out and not get soggy I would suggest using some perlite mixed with your soil for drainage or possibly finding a way so the smart pot is off the ground on some type of grate. It helps a lot with drainage

Ok also was wondering will I stress my plant by accidently trimming bud sites from the bottom? And its been flowering for two weeks and still no buds but lots of bud sites and hairs does anyone know how long til I c buds? Just to say its just bag seed...

If your plant needs transplanting do it.. if it needs to be trimmed trim it... A lot of ppl transplant for the last time then go into flower...

Just be patient and watch, buds don't magically appear there are many phases to flowering.. You should be seeing pre flowers shortly followed by pistils everywhere, then Trich formation..

ok well it has several pre flowers and lots and lots of pistils. maybe another week its just the patient thing I'm not so good at. lol! So

So I babe a hybrid mostly sativa dominant. Can I use more nutes to feed it during the bloom phase or keep them at 1/2 strength? Also I have a homemade co2 generator which supplies it with extra co2 is there a test kit or tool I can get to test ppm from like loses or home depot?
