Transplanting: now, later, never. HELP ME PLEASE FOR +REP

If I were you I would transplant anything not in flower, it won't hurt them too much. IMO transplanting should only slow your growth down not stop it all together, especially if you use a soil that doesn't have any nutes I think you should be good. If you experience transplant shock it shouldn't last more than a week, so if you see signs wait to flower. If not flower them keeping an eye on runoff PH and continue like normal.

During transplant just make sure not to break any roots or disturb the root mass much since your really just adding more soil. It also helps to prime your soil before you use it, meaning water and aeration with extra perlite do wonders. I also recommend transplanting when the soil is somewhat moist in the middle yet mostly dry around all sides of the pot, for me this has usually been around 18 hours after watering of a smaller plant. Very good advice from Kush. The only thing I would differ slightly on is pre-watering the transplanted soil. I personally would transplant with the new soil unwatered, allowing for a bit heavier drench immediately after the transplant.

no they are all in separate pots: 2 plants each in seperate 2 or 3 gallong pots, and 2 plants each in their own one gallon. it was an experiment, RIU users advised me to start with a 1 gallon before moving up but others said BS just put them in one large pot to cut down on the work so i tried 2 to each method. yes i love superthrive!

Drake is right about using soil that is more dry that way you can water it afterwards, what I meant with priming is that wetting the soil and allowing it to dry before using it along with adding the perlite/stirring it will help with the "shock."

OK, sure but you guys didnt answer one part: is it true I should not transplant between th 3 and 4th week as stated in other RIU posts? I dont want to transplant it too late because I want to flower within less than 2 weeks and dont have time to wait until week 4, then wait another week

Transplanting causes some stress to the plant, but in the end, it is beneficial. Think of it this way:

When you transplant, you will notice that the roots of the plant grow straight to the outside of the pot where they create a mass. This is because in nature, they tend to spread to have a larger area that is the source for their water and nutients. So in the pot they grow out until they can't anymore. Once they have created that mass along the pot, you transplant, and the roots will continue to spread into the larger growing area, but you've also created more root mass in what is now the inside of the growing medium. So transplanting into gradually bigger pots will more evenly distribute your roots throughout the growing medium, allowing your plant to utilize the available water and nutrients more effectively throughout.

One caveat, a huge mass of matted roots is not good. Make sure you transplant before this happens. You are looking for the roots to collect on the outside portion of the growing medium, not to grow a thick mass of them. I try to transplant a week to a week and a half before flowering.

My 2 cents

Hey jiff my concern is this, are the two plants in the 1 gallon pots root bound? In other words if you can pull it out of the pot and see all white around the edges on the sides of the soil mass then I would say they will experience some shock but the above methods will still help to alleviate some of this. This for me is what would determine when to flower, not necessarily an arbitrary schedule.

Basically my best answer is to transplant them so that you get a better yield anyway, if they look like they are going into shock don't flower them right away. If they look good, go as planned, just make sure to monitor PH run off closer and PPMs. For me I go to flower based on the health of the plant versus size as both are relative. Remember you can always top/fim a plant if it is too tall which may bush it up a little. It is just a weed man, sometimes you gotta KISS (keep it simple stoner). Good luck and happy growing.

ps. I think the no transplanting btwn week 3 and 4 must be from the assumption that you are going to flower at week 4. Week 3 and 4 is not any special "no transplant" time as far as I know. It's just relative to when you are going to switch to 12/12.

so I've decided to go ahead and break the hermi rule to never transplant between 3-4 weeks for the plants and just do the most gentle transplant in history ( ) to ensure they do not stress to invest in potential for growth and more bud. My concern was that if I transplant before flowering (on a strict schedule, needs to be ready and dried by christmas) it might hermie if done in the sensitive time of between 3-4 weeks when plants do not want stress! but its better than being forced to transplant in flowering.

1 gallon is too small to maintain now beause it means I cant go on a vacation without worrying about them drying up.

they are at the stage root wise where it is a good time to transplant and definately not overlly root bound.

Im gonna go ahead and trans plant, feed em super thrive tomorrow and hope they still love me and do not change sex

I only want daughters!

Just a suggestion - when you transplant them, you may not want to hit them with super thrive right away. I didn't see what type of soil you're transplanting into, but chances are it already is chock full of nutes.
