Okay I’ve been trying my best to determine when to pick this plant strain I made. I finally flowered it started to bud nov 1/23 my issue is that it’s all cloudy tricomes do I pick knowing it’s a month and a week old? I say this cause I used to let it flower long and all the tricomes turned milky to clear and amber I can’t take it I fell like I don’t get stone from it cause I let it go to long and wasted a crop what am I dining wrong help please.

do I let it go longer knowin the hairs at like half white? But tricome indicates it’s ready?

explain I’m curious
There's plenty of info on this site as "Is it done yet?" is likely the most common question posted here, try the search function for examples of ripe and unripe buds.

In a nutshell, your buds will continue to gain size and mass. The orange pistils will eventually recede, and the calyx's will visibly swell.

You mentioned it's been flowering for a month, there are no 30 day strains. Evaluate them again in a month, I think you'll be pleased you let them go.

The wait is worth it!

not ready bro. trichs dont mean much when the plant is not done. see attached trichs and buds. judging by the trichs it looks close but when i look at the plant i know its not.

This is what makes it hard to make a judgement lol it’s insane I can’t ever seem to get it I either let it go for to long or I pick it early hahah it’s pretty hard not an easy hobby
trich checking is like the last phase :) before coming to that your plant should have at least like 80-90% brown and receeded hairs. some will prefer even 100%. its all preferences but first see the hairs brown and receeded the branches will bend under the weight of buds. then check for trichs if you want. i usually dont btw.

It's harder to mess it up when you let it go longer than it should vs super easy to mess up harvest pulling too early. Dont even look at the trichs, I'd say its a bad habit for new growers to develop. I even stop counting the days so I can just learn to tell when my plants are done & stop going by some set number, especially the flower times the breeder recommends. Your plant looks good to finish up strong let her cook!!

Thank you very much
You're welcome!!

What strain is it? I do feel that indicas & hybrids have a smaller harvest window that can effect the high while sativas have a large harvest window that adds to the high, mainly the duration. I will pull my hybrids a tad earlier & let the sativas go until I forget about them. Why you dont feel stoned when letting it go too long could be strain dependent & personal preference as well imo.

I dunno what I’m doing wrong be honest that’s why I choked up and asked for help this strain is something I’ve made a while back and having a go at it this was mixed with a unknown male and pineapple female auto I’ve been experimenting, making seeds from 1 or 2 buds of the strain I bought so I don’t have to buy any more one time the plant you see I let go for nearly 3 months and still nothing I feel like I have to relearn everything and try till I get this strain to produce when I say this strain I made produce a nug that was like a 9inches like a soda can thick I was like holy shit picked it let it dry and it wasn’t all that at all so I’ve been trying to find that window this strain will be amazing

I think it's the genetics at play, so dont let it get to your confidence. I make my own seeds as well, it can be hit or miss sometimes with pollen chucks & you used an unknown male. I wont tell you not to grow auto's but maybe try some cheap photo fems seeds & keep clones of it to grow over & over again. So I would say learn how to take clones if you dont already & you can get some quality seeds & dial your keeper plant in over time. My oldest cut right now is 2 years old, only popped 3 seeds out of a 15 pack of fems.

You can do it for sure!! I have bonsai moms as well but I dont let them get too big or I flower the bonsai moms after I get a new clone from her. Took some clones 2 weeks ago that I have too many of now, probably just scrap them. I clone in coco coir, 5oz bathroom cups & just put them in a $6 clear storage tub for the dome. Heating pad on the bottom of tub if it's cold. Clones in 7 days for most part.

These trichs are still clear and the plant still has a long way to go.. it is hard to have the patience to let them go all the way through to ripe but it’s worth it.. and when you see those nice swollen calyx’s and have another look at those trichs they will be so white and look like plastic.. not glassy.. and then you will think “ah ha! That’s what they meant by milky”

I will add to the already good advice.

There is almost zero chance you let your other plants go “too long” and “ruined the high”. It takes a very long time and lack of observation or care to let a plant go that long. These plants have harvest windows that last for weeks, not days.

What is far far more likely is that the plants you grew just didn’t have strong genetics or had issues that resulted in less than ideal results. Just because you plant a seed does not mean it will be good weed, even if it came from a good breeder. Genetics are a crap shoot and usually you need to hunt for great plants unless you just get lucky.
