trimming fan leaves

I don't know where to trip the fan leaves exactly...wheres a good place to trim them so i can get some more lower bud development...due to only 2700 lumens i have for 2 plants

you should try not to trim them, in my opinion. they soak up light, and use it for photosynthesis. since you only have 2700 lumens wouldnt you want to soak up as much of it as possible?

Instead of trimming them why not think of adding side lighting? Increasing the reflectivity of your room would help also.

yeah, i thought light on leaves = growth. take away those leaves and something is going to slow down. probably the branch it is feeding.

I tend to see when topping the growth of the node stops completely for a few days but in pruning they seem to push out from the top a lot faster than normal. I do agree with mogie though side lighting is the way to go. I prune because i've got too damn many leaves. >_< lol

If the lower buds are not getting enough light then these are what you should trim. trimming the lower buds will put all the growth into the cola.

I trim fan leaves, but only right at the end, and then only if they are shading a bud somewhere. Maybe about 5 days before harvest. The tiny leaves off the colas are also capable of drawing in light. I do this too as it stresses the plant, and stress is good just before harvest. Even hit the bastards with 24 hour light the day before harvest, proper fuck their heads up.

Only do it towards the very end as you don't want to risk hermying any of your plants. You should be okay if growing from normal seed, check the stability if growing from feminised seed.

You stress the plant as this causes it to create more resin, and in turn more thc crystals all over your plant.

Be careful out there.

would you recomend removing the lower set of buds on a sog method if they are about the size of small marbles and the larger is about the size of a closed pine cone? This is how i have seen many of my friend's grows.

Are you sure you're using sog? Lots of small plants? 'cause with sog, i'm sure you only grow the cola, and are looking at up to 1/2 oz yield (if you're really, really good) per plant. Although more like an 1/8 to a Q in soil. i think the aim is to get a gramme per watt.

I'd def' remove the marble-sized ones.

I normally would pull the sun leaves off at about 3.5 weeks into the flowering but with only 2700 lumens, I too would leave them on.

Mylar is NOT as reflective as flat white paint, you can quickly confirm this with a light meter or by reading the metering on your camera in automatic mode. I woudl paint all four sides of the room / chamber with flat white paint from Home Depot rather than apply Mylar. You see, white reflects all of the spectrum whereas Mylar only reflects part of it and traps much of it.

Once you get used to how your plants develop you should trim off those lower branches BEFORE they start to flower and while they are in the flowering cycle but before they go all the way into flower (10-14 days). That way, that energy goes into the development of the upper flowers. If you wait until after they develop flowers, the plants are in a different mode and although you will see positive results, you will see them more so if you try it earlier.

Just try it on a couple of plants and compare them to the others when they are finished.
