Trimming leaves to allow light ?

My plants have been in flowering for 3 weeks, today is the start of the 4th, there quite larger and i was wondering if i could cut a few of the leaves around the base and in the center to allow a bit more light to the inner buds ?

Would this be possible? and if so what leaves should i be cutting off ?

Bottom leaves are ok to prune... but try to bend /fold the others to allow more light to your bud .. remember leaves are sugar factories and your buds use them ..

I trim up most of the leaves and even smaller branches down at the bottom, and also a few here and there around the plant as needed. Don't go too crazy though, and i wouldn't recommend doing all the cuttings at once because this can temporarily stun the plants growth/bud production.

I highly recommend you cut the lower leaves off.! You want to get as much light penetration as possible. Cut the bottom leaves middle leaves. This will also open up airflow (through) your plant lowering chances for mildew.

Also cut off all those small ass nugs on the bottom.

like the above said, some is ok, but do it in phases like a few a day, for like 4 days. Id get the biggest ones and if they have any issues like yellowing or spots id get those first. My querkle does the same thing, huge fan leaves blocks all the bud sites. I took like 8 leaves off and its still very leafy.

If you're not topping early, you really want to completely clear the bottom 1/3 of the plant off before flowering. Then, around the start of the third week of flowering, you want to do another pruning of all the shit that isn't going to produce. The more grows you do, the more you'll recognize which branches and sites aren't going to work out. I prune until I think I've pruned too much...then I prune some more.

I keep the bottom 1/3 of my 4 main branches completly cleaned out. I also have no issue taking off fan leaves that are covering up the colas in flower. I don't personally go nuts, but I have never had a problem keeping a nice trimmed bush LOL.

Oddly enough I've come a cross a few popcorn buds that were, while not large, very tasty. Nice little bong hit snapper.

Amen to that brother! I trimmed up a couple of mine yesterday, and managed to end a 3mo dry spell...not bad at all!

I don't trim any of my leaves. Why? Because if you can keep them green and healthy they are more productive than not having them. It's bio 101, I didn't know that was disputable.

Heres my technique, and its probably important to notice I grow a ScrOG. If the leaf doesnt get any light at all, its not doing any good so remove it. If the leaf is blocking light to a bud then although the leaf is helping your plant its more important that your bug gets light, so first try and tuck the leaf, if that doesnt work cut the leaf in half, and if thats not enough then you have to remove the leaf.

Now, if a leaf is getting light and its not blocking light to a bud then there is no logical reason to remove it. Some people say that fan leafs "use energy", no, if it is getting light then it is creating energy, to claim otherwise does not make any sense.

So in your situation, I would take care of the leafs blocking light to buds with tucking or trimming. And then remove a lot of the lower leafs that arnt getting any light. Dont do it all at once though or your will stunt your plants, good luck!

I understand where people come up with the whole theory: "If I chop the leaves then the buds will get more light and they'll get bigger!" However...

Leaves are what absorbs light and drives plant production, not the flowers. Notice how on NO OTHER PLANT IN THE AGRICULTURAL WORLD does anyone remove leaves. Why would mj be any different? Look up commercial agriculture techniques, these guys went to college for 4-7 years learning exactly how plants grow and how to get the best yields/potency out of their crops (in an orange tree's case, yield=lots of oranges, potency=tastiness of oranges). If you do what they do you'll have better looking, tasting, smelling, and more potent buds, guaranteed.

Edit: Be sure you look up annual commercial agriculture production, perennials are different than annuals.

Notice how on most strain... towards the end of the flower cycle the leaves turn yellow...this is the time to remove your leaves

The plant is no longer focusing its energy on leaf production as in veg...its main focus is bud production

You dont need all the leaves for big bud production....most of the strains I run that produce the huge colas... dont have alot of leaves

jorge knows his shat! only time i see it as usable is in very confined grow rooms where light penetration is an issue and i do prune every once in a while but again i got a small room outside i wouldn't think of pruning.
