Hey guys i want to know if its too early to trim a couple leaves off my ladies?somes are 6 inches and somes are 8 inches high..The ones who are 8 inches i could cut the first two section from bottom up and the 6 inches ones the first two leaves at the bottom. If they are old enough , how close from the stem do i have to cut them off?

No such thing as sucker leaves. Anything green on small plants is helping them get bigger, faster.

Later there may be sucker branches you will want to remove, (good for cloning), but for now you want all the leaves on there making food for your plants to grow larger with. Think of them as solar panels.

Good luck.

Smart decision.

Every open wound is a potential site for infection to take hold. The plant also has to expend energy to seal the wounds which takes energy from somewhere else, there is a finite amount of energy.

When I have to take off leaves I cut them off with a little stub left so I don't tear the stem and let infection get going. That tiny open end seals over right away so I doubt the energy required amounts to much. It's taking off lots of leaves like the defoliating crowd does that uses a lot of energy as the plant goes to town trying to grow replacement leaves. They think they get better yields but it's just that with all the leaves gone the buds look bigger. Kinda like shaving off all your pubes to make your junk look bigger. Same junk, just itchy now. :D

isn't pruning (defoliating as the 'crowd' does) an old practice ? more like removing old leaves to let light to lower ones and buds ?

pretty sure no more new leaves come after a certain time in growth anyways ... i may be wrong.

i totally agree with the tiny stem bit left on tho, that stops alot of shock aswell as healing faster.

I snip those little fuckers off at time of last transplant and bury dirt right over the cuts. Their job is largely done.

Later in flowering the plant won't bother trying to replace leaves but will earlier. Strip all the big leaves on one branch sometime and watch it get all bushy again in a week or so. that's energy lost that should go into making the bigger.

If you accidentally forget to water your plant until it is dried right out to the point some of the old leaves are crumbly it's going to drop a lot of leaves once it's all filled up again. As it runs out of water it pulls water from the oldest leaves to keep the growing portions alive and they end up falling off. No big deal as pot is well adapted to surviving drought by calling on it's reserves in times of stress.

Just like if there was a sudden famine. Obesity isn't healthy but a fat person is going to last longer than a skinny old fart like me, (5'9" and 140lbs), for two reasons.

1) They have a lot more reserves to get them through times of stress like starvation.

2) They'll wait until I drop from hunger then eat me and last another couple weeks. ;)
