Trying to get as much help as possible

They may be under $100 new on Amazon by now. They were close a couple years ago. Also scan Craigslist. I've seen some grow equipment on mine.

My local nursery just expanded into grow room hardware in a huge way. It was truly amusing to show up there buying some kelp extract, look up, and they've turned an entire 70' x 30' hoop greenhouse in a massive hydrponic and equipment store. They had to invest $1,000,000 just in new inventory. I stayed for half an hour just wandering around.

Point is, you never know where they'll be cropping up. Google is your friend. Look for hydroponics

be careful of hydro shop they will try to sell you things you A.)don't need and B.) prolly cant use anyway.

it is better to know what you are going in there for before you get there and stick to what you want not what has the best profit margin for the retailer.

sounds easy enough 2b2s going for a 250-400 watt hps and putting it in a 2x2x4 box hows that sound in your opinion, have 2 6" fans going also, give me some feedback

with 2 - 6" fans u shouldn't have a problem with heat. I used a Pyrex Bake-a-Round in my first box to hold my light and carry heat off.

One thing I forgot to mention is nutrients. Nutrients do not make your plants grow big. Light makes plants grow big. Again, you can not feed your plants to big bud. there are products out there that claim to do so, and some do, but remember there is no such thing as a free lunch and when u use the pgr's u give up something. It is usually at the expense of taste and potency. Just because it cost 90 bux a gallon of concentrate doesn't make it any better than the stuff that costs 20 bux a gallon of concentrate, the raw salts are the same for every manufacturer. I make my own hydroponic nutrient concentrates for about $1.80 a gallon for the concentrate which i mix at 100:1 or about 2 cents a gallon to use.

real good to know 2b2s but are you saying i can use only water and have close to the same results as using some kind of nutrients on the plant?

here's a couple of links from some members on here I would recommend reading for your situation
I would definitely do a SCROG if I were you, It will give you the most out of what your working with
its just a matter of maintaining an even canopy. As for lights like others said the more the better as long as you can
keep temps at an optimal level(not going over 85 F).For nutes you don't have to go all out because you will not achieve what your expecting with all those fancy labeling
as the first link will completely explain all you need really is an all around balanced diet.
definitely lose the foil it will make it excessively hot there's black and white poly that you can buy if
you dont want to go through the trouble of painting
I dont use mylar because it just looks weird and constanly blinded me whenever I was in there

bigjuhin,

I'm not saying that you would be as well off using just water, I'm saying you don't need to make big mike any richer than he already is lol. I have seen some very fine grows done in Miracle Grow for penny's on the dollar compared to some of the more popular commercial hydroponic nutrients solutions. I am saying the additives are not worth the expense, there is absolutely nothing in any of the additives that a plant cannot live without, IF YOU USE FULL strength nutes (2 E.C. is what I consider full strength). If you screw with 50% of this and that... youre back to needing additives although nutrition contains many subtle elements besides the basic 4, NPK and Mg, the plants dont actually live on nutrients. Nutes are just like vitamins, or electrolites, they help the plant build tissue by helping it to transport things it is extracting from air and water.

Carbon, which comes from air, not nutes, is the main ingredient in plant life, on a gram per gram basis. Hydrogen is one of the other main four elements that make up the body mass of a plant, it is obtained by splitting the water molecule. As if photosynthesis was a form of nuclear fission. Oxygen is also a very high proportion of plant tissue, again from air, not nutes. Nitrogen is the final top four in mass contribution, it does indeed come from nutes. The only one of the top four.

Now for Magnesium, the metal that catches fire. When sunlight hits the magnesium molecule in the middle of the chlorophyl, it "sparks" the photosynthetic reaction. As if Magnesium was somehow harnessing sunlight, it causes the plant to accumulate carbon. when we later burn the plant, the sparks of sunlight energy that were used to assemble the carbon that built the plant tissue is released as fire :)

So do not stop using your nutes, just be smart about what you buy i.e. don't fall for the marketing hype and use them correctly for a happy garden.

I almost forgot you are using weak lights so full strength @ 2 E.C. is prolly a bit strong, maybe more like 1.5 E.C. would be more appropriate for you. Ph has an anglefire page (link at bottom of post) that was really informative. Ph invented the Lucas formula which is 0-5-10 and 0-8-16 depending on light intensity not veg and flower cycle like most ppl think. According to lucas the 0-5-10 is for weak lights and the 0-8-16 is for HID lighting. I know the 0-8-16 is 2 E.C. in ro water i do not know the E.C. value of the 0-5-10 and the 0-8-16 values are based on GH 3 part flora series nutes.

super excited on the feedback guys. thank alot a few things though, why go to 12-12 cycle right away and if i switched to a 400 or 1000 high pressure sodium light would my yeild be alot more ? you guys are saying id get less then 28gs a plant right ? i would like to get something like 2 oz from it, i realize its a very small space but i expected to get at least and ounce out of her. any ideas how to get more out of harvest? im open to anything.
Imho too small for 1k. I would go 250. In ur box then you might get to oz's

damn that was a lot of reading, must agree, if you want to reach your goals you need a HID light of some kind, the CLFs will only be good for a few weeks wile they are seedlings, just remember with big lights there will also be a lot of heat, so you will need some kind of ventilation/cooling

for your space a 400W cool tube would work perfect Im sure, I wouldn't go any bigger thats for sure..

sumthing like this:

cool tube reflector maxi bright ballast__47538.jpg

and a ventilation/filter, sumthing like this:

KOMPLET_UDSUGNIN_4e064afd41bd7_200x200.jpg

tho, thinking about it, a 250W might work aswell, add another later on when you want to upgrade/have more money ..

two 250W covering 2x4 feet would cover the space better then one 400W

if you only grow Auto`s you could use the 2x3 feet for the 250W HPS and two Auto`s and the last feet to start new once under the CLFs a few weeks before harvest, so you have nice new Auto`s ready and can harvest every 6th week or so ..

Seen you where adding foot in height.go with 400 good ventilation.as slipon said.let me make a suggestion.go amazon get urself a gyo tent under 100 bucks and a good mh/hps light. Thats. Way i went 301bucks to the door. But iorder 400 .quickly got on craigslist found a1000 watt hps. But 400 worked good in my 4x4x6.5 tent. Just felt need to upgrade now i wouldnt go back 400. Use it as my veg light. Same one in slipon pic

Everyone is going on about HID lighting and temps but no one has mentioned LED lights. If you can afford one, it is probably your best bet for that space.

You could put a 150w HPS in a cooltube, the ventilation ducting and fan would have to be outside the box and can be a little loud.

My only other comment is to setup your fan so that it is sucking air out of the grow box instead of blowing air into it. Is it a 4" inline fan or a shitty 4" walmart $5.00 personal fan?

If you have heat probs with the one fan, you'll need two, one blowing in and one blowing out. Exhaust at the top of your box.

I'll have an LED setup when they become affordable vs HID. Ten years maybe?

Well seeing as how you can get an LED for that small space for 350 - 400$ and consider the cost of HPS kit with cooltube, inline fan, carbon filter, ducting, duct clamp straps, 4" to 6" connectors, etc... the cost is more comparable. With LED, I think Ona Gel and passive ventilation ports with basic circulation fans would be fine.

Factor in power consumption for the inline fan, sound decibels, and heat... the extra 150$ investment for an LED seems like an option that should at least be considered.
