I'm 23, and have been dealing with chronic insomnia since middle school. Marijuana has been the only thing that's helped me since all other things (tylenol pm, benedryl, sleeping pills) all seem to have a reverse effect on me, or cause me to be so groggy in the morning that I can't function. I've been smoking for the past four years, but had to quit for the past month to try and get a job, and my insomnia and other conditions have been out of control. I haven't slept in two days, literally. I live in WestLA, and also suffer from Eczema, Sciatic pain, and painful monthly women's issues (I'll save you boys the embarrassment by listing it out loud). I got a referral from my doc to go see a Sleep Specialist, and am wondering if that(documentation of seeing the sleep specialist) will be enough to get my MMJ card once my CA drivers license comes in the mail, or if I'm going to have any issues getting my card. Any responses to this post are loved, cause I'm desperate. thanks!
I sympathize with you.... my mom's suffered from chronic insomnia her entire life, and she's 64. She's tried everything and anything in the way of sleep medications, both over the counter and prescribed (including Ambien, Lunesta, etc.), with little to no effect, or sometimes they seem to help briefly and then stop. She finally was referred to one of those sleep disorder clinics recently but they basically said she's screwed, that her brain just doesn't shut down, and that a hypno-therapist would probably help more than anything. Those clinics aren't very helpful unless you suffer from sleep apnia, usually related to obesity or some malformity in the breathing passages. As a list ditch effort she decided to try and get a MM card a try some MJ to see if that might help, both with her insomnia and a number of other chronic pain related problems she has. No trouble getting a MM card, and I easily got one as well since I broke pretty much every bone from the waist down in a near-fatal skydiving accident and have more metal in my body than a Terminator.
You won't have ANY trouble getting a MM card with chronic insomnia, especially if you have other pain related problems. Don't even bother trying to get the referral from any of your usual doctors though, go to a doctor that specializes in MM referrals, they're all over the southland just search for medical marijuana doctors. My mom and I both went to the same one in Van Nuys that I highly recommend (
Best Price Evaluations), just off the 405 a few miles north of the 101. Very inexpensive and they've been around a while and have multiple locations. That's important when you get a MM referral because when you purchase medical MJ they contact the referring doctor's office, and if they're not around any longer you need to get a new referral from another doctor. This place has a bunch of different coupons on their website, and you'll definitely find one that will save you some money, even if it means having to go on a certain day of the month. Even at full price though it's only $60 I think for the visit, exam, and referral which is very cheap. Another $20 if you want a convenient MM ID card you can keep in your wallet instead of showing the doctor's referral, but you'll always need the original referral the first time you walk into any MM dispensary and join.
Good luck, come back and post to let us know if you get one.
