turning a vacuum cleaner into an exhaust fan

well my 4 inch duct fan isnt doing a good job cooling my 250w hps
so, i got an old vacuum cleaner that i dont use, it would do a great job sucking the hot air but its way too loud
so i thoght of lowering the speed so it wont make so much noise

i opened it up (i have very little knowlage of electricity) and hooked it up with an 30v adapter
my guess was that if i would lower the volt it would lower the speed
it worked, but 30v is way to slow

the vacuum cleaner works on 220vac
and i guess i need somewhere around 100v adapter so it would work good and half as noisy

i cant seem to find an old adapter in my house or a cheap one to buy so i thought ill ask here if someone ever tried doing something of that sort and how he did it

Go to the "Junk Store" and pick up a blow dryer or two nd disconnect the heat easy to exhaust out and lots quieter.. Although..., if you go talk to a heating repair man, Ask him if he has an old squirrle cage off a scrapped out furnace, they run reasonably quiet also with more CFM. Hope it helps and good luck.. ohh and BTW reasonably sure "DIMMING DOWN" the power to an electric motor is rarely a good idea.. ussually smoke the motor.

and have you calculated how many watts that vacum requires to run? it's very inefficient just get an exhaust fan

please don't do this.

You're going through all the effort to grow this beautiful plant (making it's environment as close to perfect is the goal here) and you want to use substandard parts to produce fine quality bud?

Buy yourself better in take and out take fans for a start before messing around with electronics, please?

Do not do this are you serious? Vacuum cleaners 1.) Take a TON of electricty 2.) Are NOT designed to be run for more than 5 minutes at a time 3.) Will burn out QUICKLY (hours) and will smoke out like a previous poster said.

Hi
Their are these shit Chinese fans that are black 'some called shagn ghi or something like that. Anyways, I have seen them in lots of grow stores. They move not LOTS of air but they are cheap-around 50 bucks for a 5 inch and moves around 400CFM. I would look into something like this. Also, u dont have to buy a vortec, they do have a few knock off's that offer half price too. Although I have Vortex primary I also have to admit I do have two other 8 inch fan brands. All work fine. Their's lots out their. Look at Princess Auto on the net and order one. Their was an 8 inch fan, that moved 440 CFM at 99watts. at .9amps lol. I bought one. It works, I just use it to scrub air in the room that I primary exhaust into.
