helps burn off any sugars left in the buds, that's all I can speculate.

they hope its going to increase potency, i personally go the other way, its the last day right so what harm will giving it 24 hours of light that day to give it a growth boost

I've left plants in the dark for a couple of days before harvesting, and I feel it definately makes the plants more sticky and resin covered. I've known other growers who leave them for up to a week.

I think the key is that they sleep the night and are slaughtered in the dark.
I have left them in the dark for days while getting through grooming.
My gdp has high leaf to nug ratio pain in the ass to groom.

I've learned this from my experiences. I flush for week or so during normal 12/12 cycle but complete darkness last 48 hours. makes those crystals pop as well....

no. don't leave the light on for 24 hours before harvest. the longer you leave the plant in darkness before you harvest the more stressed it gets. when it gets stressed it increases resin production. since it thinks its going to die, it tries to do everything possible to reproduce (get male pollen to make seeds) and reproduce, so the buds get stickier.

whoever is saying that you should leave the lights on for 24 hours before harvest... i'd love to see some scientific data on the benefits of that. all you're really doing is giving it an extra 12 hours of light (since the other 12 is part of the normal 12/12 cycle) and i doubt that an extra 12 hours makes a noticable difference in bud growth.

Hello there, I'm new to this site but I'll tell you what I do. Usually for the last week or ten days I cut the hours down to 10 from 12 hours. This definitely maximizes resin production. I have been thinking of gradually cutting down the lights a 1/2 hour a week for the last 4 weeks and seeing what the results would be, but I haven't done that yet. Maybe next grow. Anyway I have never let the plants stay in the dark for the last few days but I really like that idea. It makes a lot of common sense to me. I am ready to harvest a new batch of G13's and will leave them in the dark for the last few days!! Great idea:hump:

if an extra 12 hours of light doesn't make a difference, why do you let it go an extra day, why not cut it a day earlier if it makes no difference, light = growth thats scientific fact,

if you wanna stress it out for more thc lol, why not just go with every other hairbrained idea like put a nail through its stem or feed it birth control pills, there are so many of these "methods" that supposedly improve thc, but no one's proved it at all, its all just a placebo.

if it were true then it would be "the way to do it" and everyone would be doing it, but seeing as no one who tests the plants for thc has tested these claims out, there is no proof to back it, someone saying yeah its deffinitely stronger don't mean shit to me, because the mind can quite easily tell you its stronger than it is and what have you got to compare it against at the time, seeing as its generally 2-3 months between crops you would be hard pressed with so many variables from grow to grow to proove that there is an increase in thc from putting them in the dark.

so to anyone who says it increases thc, i say proove it

I keep the plant in 24/0 for the last three days of flowering. During the last two weeks, depending on outside temps I'll sometimes set the timers to a five day week. Lights on 23hours 22 minutes and off for twelve hours. That gives the plants an extra 48 hours of light.

Yo all right check it. I am in a weekly sog. I have tons of experience with this. I get to try knew things and see the difference and test (chemically) on flushing and pre-harvest techniques. The dark doesn't make the cannaboids increase, however it does help get the hairs/pistols to finish turning red. The smoke does get smoother. I only do it if its needed. For example a new strain is holding up my new plants from having room to come in to the flower room I am likely to put the older plants into my dry tent. This happens a lot when I get a 10 or 12 week strain. Hope this helps any new readers.

I read about this in a Jorge Cervantes book (and another book with a different author) a long time ago and from my personal experience is that it does help flood the buds with more resin. If your worried about trying all your plants with a 24 hour darkness before harvest, just try it with a couple of them and compare your results. Thats what i did the first time i heard of it.

Yeah, the only way you'll know for sure is to do your own comparison.

OR.............
There are a couple people on here that really know their stuff. They're easy to find because they have almost like a cult following them.
Seek their wisdom.

I’ve done a comparison using the same strain. Cut the light off for 48hrs while the other stayed on 12/12. In my honest opinion the plant that received darkness it’s last 2 days without a doubt had more resin covered buds and definitely looked a lot more frosty. But again this was my own exsperiment

I've done it both ways and I didnt notice any difference.

Even if it did produce more trichs I dont think thats enough time for them to mature enough to notice a difference in how stoned you get.
