two fans on one exhaust duct? physics anyone??

i have two inline booster fans to cool an area but not a lot of space to run two ducts.

the fans are rated 190cfm free air and 250cfm boosted and have a 6"diameter.

can i run both fans into a y-connector, 6"X6"X6", and exhaust from my space on one duct or is there some physics at play that will prevent the two fans from being efficient together?

you can run the two into a y connector if you want, but that will be slightly less efficient that running them both as exhausts...

here's how it works, if you put the 2 fans in the same duct, in series - they would be able to move the same amount of air as they are rated (not twice as much) BUT they would be stronger, so anything in the duct to cause pressure like kinks, sharp turns, extended lengths, or carbon filters would not affect the air output as much... (but still a little)

putting the fans in separate ducts and combining them is like running them both as exhausts, but there is a small amount of pressure added to try to combine them, so they would be working at a little less than twice their air output... but if you are using the duct booster fans i think you are, they do not move much air at all once installed into a duct, they do not do good against any amount of pressure... if you have a carbon scrubber or something, you will need at least a centrifugal inline fan, or squirrel cage blower... they come in all sizes, but are significantly more expensive than the booster fans, because they work ;-)

bongsmilie i'd place the 250 cfm fan at the end of the duct then a few feet down the line place the other one
