Two Plants, Identical Environment, One Healthy, One Stunted !

Hello, this is my first grow. Indoor, CFL 6400k (for veg) 85W x2. From 2 fem seeds - one is Northern Lights from Pyramid Seeds, the other is a Humboldt from CH9. Because I am a genius, I mixed the two up and don't know which is which now. So here are pics :

The healthy looking bushy one is about 7.5 inches tall from top soil whereas the less vibrant plant is 6 inches, appears to have almost stopped growing, showed it's sex 2 weeks ago (pistils), and has me worried. Is it trying to flower ? Both have been getting 18/6 since sprouting. The healthier plant is showing no sex yet, and has always looked a bit better than the other.

Both in identical conditions. Each is in a 12 inch pot since sprouting by soaking (five weeks ago now), compost is houseplant compost (which contains perlite). First feed 5 days ago with Biobizz - Grow, Bloom and TopMax, each 1ml per litre of tap water (tap water is left to stand for 24 hrs to lose the chlorine), one litre per plant - this is according to a grow schedule I found online. The taller plant responded very well to the feeding, the other - not a lot of reaction. Otherwise I don't water often, the large pots tend to hold a lot of moisture for a while.

Temps ~25-27C, just a few degrees lower at night. Humidity 35-40%. Soil pH seems a bit high, about 6.9 according to soil pH/moisture tester, so I will try to reduce that. I have a 12 inch fan to keep air moving in there. No sign of pests, this is an indoor grow on 2nd floor in winter, so I don't expect any really. No pruning/cuttings yet. CFLs are about 3 inches from plants, they don't put out a lot of heat really.

So (1) - is that plant trying to flower or is it normal to show that many pistils at the top ? And why has it nearly stopped growing ? I noticed the stems of both plants are both thickening noticeably at the moment, which is cool as I was worried they looked a bit feeble.

And (2) - any other comments ? Should I prune yet ? I want to take clones but don't think the branches are long enough yet.

Thanks !!

both getting 18/6 and one starting to flower? I see you said fem but could they/it be auto flower? I thought auto flower plants were not good for cloning.

Since she is flowering in 18/6 she is almost certainly an autoflower. In other words don't look for too much more height growth. But no worries brah, it just means you'll be able to sample the fruits of your labor all that much sooner. They look great!

Thanks for the replies ! But is she definitely flowering ? Neither were advertised as auto flowering and they came from the Attitude who I hear are reputable. Can anyone say for sure ? It looks like it's flowering but it shouldn't be ! What's more I don't have my flowering lights yet :(

That big clump of white pistils are a bud forming, she is definately flowering. And since you have not changed to 12/12 it must be an auto. Yes Attitude is a reliable company but perhaps the person who filled your order was a bit stoked and put in the wrong seed. Human error my friend. Shit, I hate when that happens! You may want to contact them and mention it, they may send you a freebie or 2!

WOW, just looked at the C9 humboldt seed on my catalog. A small fast sativa dominant, would be awesome in a SoG grow. The pic looks great purple and reddish with a lot of frost...YUMMY! From the looks of it though she is not an auto strain, just small in stature. I am a bit confused on this one because she is definately flowering in an 18/6 cycle...weird shit going on there.

Not a bad idea but if you state the seed is growing they may not be so inclined to replace it as their policy states as follows

:The Attitude Seedbank sells all seeds strictly for souvenir purposes only or for storage in case the laws may change and for the conservation of cannabis seeds. Seeds sold by The Attitude may not be germinated in countries not legal to do so.
WARNING: IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO GERMINATE CANNABIS SEEDS IN MOST COUNTRIES

Thanks for the input. It's advertised as CH9 Humboldt fem, and the CH9 website states - "Lineage: A plant from Humboldt X CH9 Jack33". It doesn't state sativa dominant though, does your catalogue mention a sativa/indica ratio ? Yeh, not supposed to be Auto, but whereas the NL from Pyramid Seeds came in original packaging, the Humboldt was just in a bag with a sticker stapled to another seedbank's label ! Must have acquired their stock, would explain why it's a freebie. Piccy :

Yes the website says they won't respond to emails which in any way reference the growing of seeds, since it's illegal to grow them ! Even though it was a freebie, I only ordered from them as they give away freebies with paid orders. Annoyed as a) don't have my 2700k CFLs yet, and b) wanted to make clones from both plants.

* edit - the "other seedbank" (delicious seeds) is actually a breeder, the card is just an advert.

My catalog is the single seed center website, I use them exclusively. Just my preference. It also says this strain generates about 80gm indoors. Of course that is under optimal conditions. But that is still about 1/5 of the yield that most indoor strains are said to produce by most breeders. And of course all these production counts are under optimal conditions and are reported by the people trying to sell their seeds. So I take them with a grain of salt. I would be tickled pink if I could grow a 400gm plant in my tent with my conditions. However I think I have a better chance of a 3some with Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba than that happening. LOL!

Just a quick update of sorts, took a close up of the top :

It kind of looks better in the pic than in real life ! Scrambling to improve the lighting situation at the moment ... thanks for all your input ppl ... I suppose this is officially from a mystery seed rather than Humboldt

My 2 1/2 YO mother plant has heavy pre flowers like that on 18/6, no worries.

I would either clone it, or top it to get some side branches going for cloning if it's not tall enough.

Looking good!

Another update - the mystery plant is still only 8 inches high although the width is 11-12 inches. Basically not much height increase, but the flowers/preflowers look ok. Pics :

A few pistils have turned orange. This is a little over six weeks since the seedlings broke the topsoil. It remains on 18/6 with the other plant, which is now 15 inches high. About to switch to 12/12 with an array of 23W 2700k CFLs. Thanks for any feedback.

Sure looks like an autoflower to me... looks like someone got the wrong seeds... :) i imagine anywhere along the supply line some pothead screwed up putting the wrong seeds in the pack :) She looks good at least!

Just thought I'd update this thread with a pic of the main cola roughly trimmed - it weighed approximately 59g wet, I didn't get dry weight ... presumably about half an ounce. Thanks for all the input !

Remarkably satisfying to smoke bud you've grown yourself.

Of course, it's just an hors d'oeuvre compared to the imminent main event ...
