Ultrasonic Cloning...

To start, I suck at cloning, I have only ever had one survive (out of 300+) and that was in soil... so ultrasonic looked promising as a good home-made aero system that gives results FAST.
Has anyone here used ultrasonic nebulizers for cloning? I built a small system based on the cheapo-aero cloning tub thread, but instead of bubble wands I used the ultrasonic.... do you know if cloning gel should be used for these systems? I know that the gel will never be washed off by the water droplets like in traditional aero systems, so will gel just starve the stems of O2? My last batch failed and I tried again, this time using a 24 hour soak in liquid rooting hormone (and no gel) but I will have to see. If anyone uses this technology I could use all the pointers I can get, there is remarkably little info online and if I don't get clones that root soon, well... I may just go insane!

P.S. Oh and I have set up some of the most professional cloning setups you could ever see and I still fail... I may just not have the green thumb for this but still... I could use the help.

300+ !!!! obviously you are doing something wrong if your survival rate is 1 out of 300. not just a stroke of bad luck or "not having a green thumb".

No I've no experience with ultrasonic, I just built my air cloner and now on my 2nd set. I too have a miserable time cloning tried everything rw, oasis, pro-mix, sunshine#4 and what worked for me is h2o2, no harmone just a heck alot of bubbles. Just water not even phd. Who would of thought!

Man you really do suck at cloning, LOL. I thought I was bad at 1 out of 5. You only dip the cloning gel to about 1/2". The stems don't uptake CO2, thats what the leaves are for. I'm using something very similar to an ultrasonic system. I didn't want to ruin a bunch of clones so I only tried it with 4, 2 of which I didn't think would make it anyway. One of them is looking very viable now. Give it a shot.

I thought I had troubles. all of mine survived and I beat the hell outta them. Must have been the superthrive.

I used an aero cloner (cheapo, from this sites diy)

out of 12 cuttings, and after letting them sit in a bucket o water for an hour, Ive had 7 make it to being a fully developed veg plant.

Just add water, and bubbles, and make sure to add h2o2 once a day and youll have roots.

Im sure my success rate would have been higher if I had prepared the cuttings a day in advance, but im an impatient stoner..

I think it's the inpatients that does it, hard for me to leave something alone oy. But I guess I didn't really prepare the ultrasonic well enough... it should have worked but I used a shitty container and didn't plan ahead... but thats not the case with the rapid-rooter clones I have taken, THAT setup is fantastic; thermostat, heating mat, humidity dome with digital hygrometer/thermometer, root aeration from a pump and a 2' hydrofarm fluorescent fixture with Agrosun bulbs. THATS what REALLY pisses me off, I followed that method to the fucking letter. Even brought over my friend who is a bio major with plant physiology concentration for proper sterile technique. Even he was dumbfounded. Maybe I just have a difficult strain to clone, it is a pure skunk and George Cervantes placed skunk under the "hard to clone" category. But thats the odd part, I got a 1cm flower bud cutting to root in soil and is now a mother plant. It was a last min cutting of desperation but THAT worked despite common sense saying it wouldn't. Maybe the gods of hydro are trying to tell me something...

gotta be something. its either the angle you cutting, the temp.

If George said it is hard to clone - it is. There are lots of great strains out there; pick something easier.

Fuck it, I just started a bag-seed grow, don't have the cash for another strain so I officially give up... but thanks anyways lol. I'm going to work on the ultrasonic cloner more though, if I get it to work I will post...

I don't know fire, I built that aerocloner 9 months go and I haven't lost a single girl.

I do not know of ultrsonic, sorry, but....

I put the entire cloner (I use 1inch holes in the top) with the dual outlet pump and un phed TAP water, in the tray under a humidity dome. The entire dome sits on a heating pad that is timed 15 minutes on 45 off (set to med for first 8 days then lo). Spry once a day w water/Jump Start. I keep a piece of cardboard about 2'x1' opn top of the dome for the first 3-4 days that knocks down alot of the light from the 2 2ft t5s. Vents closed. Then take away cardboard, 1-2 more days, givem vent openings (of course, one opens hood and sprays the girls daily wi the jumpstart juice). Day 12-14 remove hood, lower light some and FEEL from there LOL!. 100%

I feel very lucky to have found that thread here: https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=42

Don't want to be condecending fire but I'd be pulling my hair our if I were you.. I hope this helps you. Good luck m8.:joint:

nm, got the ultrasonic to work, there was simply too much light entering into the rooting zone. Fuck it took me a while to find "Plasti-Dip" in a spray can but damn does it work. Will post pics tomorrow.

sorry about that, my digital camera finally failed after 5 years of abuse... with the help of my 10 month old puppy of course. Here is a link to what someone else did with the ultrasonics, I will get some clones going so I can take some pics with a friends camera...

The poster describes it as a 4 day cloning system but he dropped off the face of the earth so no one's questions about the system were ever answered. From what I can tell he uses a short cycle timer for the fogger but I didn't find that necessary. All in all an aero system for $30 that works in 4 days ain't bad.
