I think under the stair grow I'm doing , is gonna work well, totally air tight, thanks to spray foam, all the walls/under stairs are covered in reflectex insulation , I can hang my lights under each step each time I need to move them up due to growth. Just wondering if anyone else here has done this if so do you have any pics curious to see what others setups look like.

Thanks

What lighting are you going to use?

Air tight??? How are you going to exhaust all your hot air out?

I plan on using cfl's, I've built a small knee wall under the last 2 bottom steps to house a carbon filter, the last bottom riser will have a vent cover over it.

It's a perfect setup, fresh air pulled in from outside, though a pipe that looks like a vent pipe, exhaust through riser, into unfinished part of the basement, I need to find a fan that is quiet, I plan on building a sound proof box if needed.
thanks

wow u inspired my first post in 4 years so I hope you come back to read this! :) Ive been growing under the stairs for about 6 years now and love it. my room is roughly 3' wide x 10' deep (large staircase + 3'x3' space at top of stairs) and the first 6' are 8' in height then taper down right to the floor. I use the back 4-5' or so as storage, and built an artificial wall and covered it in mylar just to segregate it the stuff back there from light damage, help with venting, and the reflectiveness on the mylar. If you ask real nice I'll post a couple pictures. I have a 1000watt cool tube in the space and it works nicely. Passive air intake through the door and a 4" 265cfm pullin air out the ceiling. Room ramps up to 85 with lights on at 68 with lights off. Love the space I have, just wish it was wider :) I have to move the most the girls out to get at the back row

oh wanted to mention, my fan came with a sock that was supposed to muffle the sound (it was free) but they really dont do too much. I found once i hooked up the venting and attached the carbon filter it quiets down quite a bit, mine was still bothering me so i hung it from the ceiling with bungee cords and that helped a lot. Best of luck buddy and post a pic of your Harry potter closet if you can I am curious

Sorry; I misunderstood.
A single layer of cloth is a poor sound absorber, as you have found. I am controlling fan sound with a power transformer. So far so good: running it at quiet levels still keeps my light cool and my air unsuspicious. cn
