So i wanna get peoples views on about the unions (UAW) ... why you are for them and why you are not.

I use to be for them.... not saying all unions are bad.. but when u pay union dues and geting no help.. its like paying a lawyer... but my union has turned there back on helping geting my job back, let me get fired of some straight fuckin BULLSHIT.. no procedures were followed by company or my union.. even pointed it out in my UAW contract...

personally i think it falls down the chain... that maybe the unions are being bought out by some of these big companys.. :joint::joint:

Well, I feel for ya ... I belong to the CAW .. was terminated for basically getting hurt while doing my job .. worked for the company for 31 years .. the union did help me fight for my job back. But I had to go over my locals head for help. I could have went to the labour board here and did the same thing but using the union I didnt have to get a lawyer. I personally think there is a place for the union, but it's got to be an "old boys club" , locals only seem to wanna help buddies and dont really want to do much to help others that question some of their decisions. I would say go to your regional or state rep? I don't think they are being bought out .. just tuning into a big company.

I totally agree with you on those..

I am planning on going to the regional on Monday, I Have been out of work for three weeks...

not sure if this makes sense lol.. i hate typing shit out.. but shit just pisses me off. and people need to see how corrupt the union is as well.. i pay $30 a month n union dues and im sitting at home..

Plant ops manager from another plant, walking in my plant seen me with no saftey glasses , comes over asked me a few questions.. its cool ill gets some safteys.. Well i got a pair they were all scratched up and warped (used).. n i were glasses so it was hard for me to see to trim some parts with out my glasses, so i put these saftey glasses over my glasses and they would fall off when i looked down well i took them off for 5 sec to pack some parts.. n sure as shit this dude sees me comes up and just blows up in my face. ( I did't know who the guy was till then) he said he was from plant 1 blah blah blah.. so i stood there n said well what am i suppose to do if i can't trim my parts.. he went off again on me then went to HR brought her on the floor she started reaming me.. (remind you in my plant no safteys is just a write up).. well i was like w.e im just gonna take points and go home.. cause (we work on points get 21 points ur gone.. 3 points calling off.. 2 points going home early. ) so the hr lady said alright fine... so i left.. came in the next day i was sent home, went to my union talked to them they told me to go home and someone will call me.. I contacted my rep everyday to see what was goin home and why i was siting home over a write up, no answers... week later i go in for a meeting with HR and my union, my rep never tryed meeting with me prior to hear my story or talk about what hr is thinking . instead he was in HR office drinkin coffee n having a good time when i walked in they stoped and the meeting got started.... well she tryed hitting me with 4 OTHER charges.. just not the safteys, my union rep sits there don't say nothing.. this broad comes out and calls me stupid.. trying to get my mad.. well i was calm as can be and just tryed defending myself best as possible . my rep said nothing.. 2 weeks after the letter comes stating Termination of like 4 diff conducts.... BULLSHIT.. cause i know for a fact i didn't fuck my parts (press) up... my union red n HR are up each others asses, the plants ops dude i pissed off is HRs husbands best friend.. so i pissed the wrong dogs off on the wrong day... but just to say all them things there trying to get me fore are just write ups.... So anyways.. went to the local pres yesterday dude didnt wanna listen to me on how my rep was not doing his job and no procedures were followed.. I took my father in for a witness to see how shady my union is.. dad in him had a few words about the union.. my dad been a union man for 30 yrs as chyrsler so he knows this is all bullshit.. diggin dirt up AFTER i went home.. The real issue saftey glasses.... but my union is just shady...

Mind u i been here 5 years no write ups no problems. all of a sudden i got smashed and fired....

I dropped out of my union 5 years ago. I get the same service as everyone else and get to keep my 30 a month. The afl-cio has turned the unions into gutless wonders. There is a place for unions, we are just missing the union part.

Unions can be good if you have a rep that is actually working for you and not just for the company. When I was part of the UAW, my rep only cared about moving up the ladder, and if it meant not being a help to the people paying his salary it didn't matter. But you also have some reps that are willing to go above and beyond for their union members. While it is also true that even if you don't pay union dues you can still get help from some reps. You say you are were part of the auto workers union and it's kind of a hit or miss, however, my fiancee works for the post office and her union seems to be pretty good. Not sure if there is really one right answer to this question.

I think unions were more meaningful and effective when working conditions actually were very bad. In the present, though, the unions have basically accomplished their mission. They obtained much better pay, shorter hours, safer working conditions, etc. Some of these things are now enshrined in the law, which doesn't leave much for the unions to fight for.

And how long do you think that will last if we got rid of the unions?

The minimum wage? Overtime? OSHA? Forever. Unions aren't powerful forces anymore, and they aren't keeping those policies in place.

I'm not saying unions should be disbanded, for the record. I don't think anyone should be required to be a union member to get a particular job, and I don't think employees should be required to pay union dues to work somewhere.

1 the RIght has been systematically working on Wages And OSHA forever
2 If a union is in a shop they are required by law to represent non union employees that work there also. So why shouldn't the non union employees pay the portion of dues the Unions habve to spend to represent them? Because legally if a non union employee doesnt get representation from the Union in a employee dispute. That employee can sue the Union. I dont think anyone should be forced to join a Union. They can always look elsewhere for work in a non union shop

How do you like that?

Reducing or eliminating the minimum wage...? "Working on" regardless--no success.

What bothers me about unions is that they're monopolies. What do workers get out of their unions? We all know the answer: overpaid union fat cats at the top who make way more than the workers make, playing politics; career union people who don't give a fuck about the workers because they want to get to fat cat level; and silly demands, perks, and privileges enshrined in the agreement, because they had nothing else to ask for but had to justify the money they were taking out of all those checks.

That workers should be forced to "pay their share" as a condition of having a job is repugnant. Let the unions we have die off, let some abuses take place, and then see the union spirit reborn, with the workers actually interested in the outcome and achieving something meaningful from their investment.

A complacent union is in some ways worse than an unfair employer. There should be stricter regulations in regards to allowing unions to collect dues, a truly effective grassroots union would not need to charge its members fees. Unfortunately very few unions still fight for their workers, and instead have become political symbols without any real clout.
