Unusual new shoots appearing at node of established branches ????

These started appearing only after topping the main stem and are only showing up as 1 shoot per node on alternating sides of the stem at the top 3 branch sites currently, even though the lower branches, that were topped at the same time, are not displaying the anomaly.

Just curious if anyone has encountered this before or any knowledge about it in general please.

Any help greatly appreciated as I haven't seen this before in my 30+ years experience/inexperience of growing/killing cannabis

It's a stress response to being topped.
I've seen it a few times, just a survival mechanism, while rare it's still normal gene expression that's dormant until needed. The plant will be trying to maximise pollination through new growing tips.
Nothing to worry about though. In the past I've just pinched them out to concentrate on usual lateral bracing.

It happens on some plants. Ive seen many thatt instead of having two branches opposite each other actually have 4, double at every node. Its intresting that it only triggered on your plant after topping it. Are you feeding anything to the plant, some feeds have chemicals that are sometimes undeclared and are sold as yield boosers, more growth in the same space. Sometimes there are feeds were they a sold with the intention of being able to slow down upward growth and will push out double nodes and buds in the same space. But some of the chemicals used can be dangerous to health and or only supposed to be for ornamental plants, not plants designed to be consumed. Some strong seeweed extract can cause it too. Sometimes it might just be natural and a way the plant hormones rearrange themselves and continue action when the top of the plant is removed. Some plants you can top the top of every branch again and again and they start growing like a hedge. Hope that helps.

"Some strong seeweed extract can cause it too"

This may be the cause as the only nutrients I have used until today is seaweed extract.

However, I have 3 plants (unknown genetics gifted from a friend who is a cannabis connoisseur/snob so undoubtedly will be premium) with only 1 showing this trait so I'm guessing it is genetic triggered by the seaweed extract possibly.

-UPDATE-
Now getting 2 new shoots instead of 1 so I'm extremely interested to see how this develops hopefully 50% more shoots = 50% extra yield lolIMG_20231222_192511.jpg
