Just one story of many many.

What is your view on this? Are the drone attacks justified because they are taking down "militants" regardless of Pakistan not wanting the drone in their airspace, and also the fact that the US simply does not have the right to do this.

Personally i think it is wrong, if they want to go and start a war in Pakistan, then they should get some authorisation, you can't just work on the premise that because they are neighbours, then it's ok to breach a border with your military. I see it as no different to waking up to find a drone had taken out part of my neighbourhood in the UK, simply because there was information there were militants or terrorists etc.

But that's just my humble opinion, how do you folks see this? Right or wrong?

There are so many secret opps and crap going down over there that it's difficult to form an educated opinion unless you're some political/war junky. To me with my limited knowledge it's starting to look like Nam again. A no win war with a lot of people being killed. Wrap in a religious jihad and politics and we'll be there for another 5 years. Ugh!

normally I would not support such action but the pakis receive billions in military aid from the US, we give them this money because we expect certain results/actions which isn't happening. They play both sides and I'm tired of hearing about it so in this case im in favor of it and I highly doubt it would start a military conflict between the two. The gov of Pakistan cannot openly support these incursions in fear of looking weak and causing local radical to gain support so who really knows whats going on behind the scenes.....

they're killing *suspected* militants...whatever THAT means...i don't trust a word anybody in power says, but i can use common sense to justify my opinion in saying that a $1.2 trillion dollar defense budget to wage insurgent wars and occupy territories around the globe does NOTHING to protect NATIONAL DEFENSE...and does EVERYTHING to elicit hatred toward the militarized American culture...you just heard president Ahmadinejad talk about his hatred of american foreign policy...but funny thing is, the title of the article just read "All out war if US crosses line"

it would be funny if mexico started flying armed UAVs over our border and firing missiles at "suspected drug smugglers".
if we can do it, why can't they?

If you believe for one second that Pakistan isn't allowing these drone attacks, I have some nice beachfront property I'd like to sell you. It's in outer Mongolia but I am willing to negotiate on price.

Pakistan is between a rock and a hard place. Being a predominantly muslim country and neighbor to Afghanistan, they can't be seen as too supportive of the War on Terror, but they don't want extremists to take over either. The Pakistanis have been cooperating with Nato and America since the very beginning of the war. I'm sure they are allowing the drone strikes as well. They have been surprisingly silent on the matter which tells me exactly what I need to know.;-)

Funny you say that! You guys have been flying one over us on your northern border for a few years. Scary to think that thing could and quite possibly would fire down into our area. Esecially next year when we pull out of afghanistan. We will no longer be "with" you and you guys might just think were "against" you.

Yeah, that's gonna happen. I think Canada will remain a U.S. ally for the forseeable future. We have yet to attack an ally simply because they "pulled out" of a war. Keep up the fearmongering. :dunce:

But they will happily attack allies in friendly fire attacks ;)
"Happily attack allies in friendly fire attacks"?????? As a veteran I take issue with that incredibly irresponsible, downright false and oxymoronic statement. Anyone who has ever served and seen combat will tell you that things happen really fast and it's very easy to become confused, maybe even a little fearful. No soldier "happily attacks allies in friendly fire attacks". The last thing a soldier wants to do is kill an ally while fighting for his survival in a hostile land. Friendly fire accidents have happened since the first war was fought. They will continue to happen as long as man engages in warfare.

Oh dear, guess it was lost on you...just errr...keep on smokin :bigjoint:
Guess so. We veterans are a sensitive bunch. Maybe it's all the getting shot at or IED's. Most of us don't ask for much, just a little bit of respect, maybe a thank you now and again, oh, and could you not try to accuse us of war crimes. Thanks. :-|

this is an important topic, i just want to relate what i've read on the topic
the Taliban is(in large measure) a Pakistani creation, and this relationship continues
Pakistan is determined to maintain as much control of the Afghan 'territory' as they can
Pakistan is enemy and ally at the same time, very bizarre situation
Afghanistan is mostly lines on a map, the tribal lines are the reality
the more of Afghanistan that Pakistan effectively incorporates into itself, the stronger Pakistan feels in the ultimate conflict with India

LOL the US has the right to be in Pakistani air space because we say we do (it's a sad truth). Unfortunately, we have put ourselves in a position where we have to police the world. It almost seems like its expected out the USA. Anytime the shit hits the fan people ask why didn't the UN or the US try to stop XYZ from happening. Also another annoyance of mine is the fact we have to give so much foreign aid for no god damn reason. Seriously we spend countless billions helping other countries, buying medicine, and fighting other people's wars. Blame this on ineffective global governments. For instance when the shit hit the fan in Haiti people were pissed we didn't give enough foreign aid and that we didn't send out troops to help. Surprisingly the US military does a lot of civil services in terms of running blood banks, hospitals, helping out in disaster zones, rebuilding, and giving food. They do a lot more of that than fighting but that never makes the news.

I think I have a pretty good sense of humor but this is one area I don't play around. Saying that American soldiers happily engage in friendly fire attacks doesn't make me laugh. If most people had a fraction of a clue how horrible war is they would never say such things. Tell your father I said thanks for his service. :leaf:

I say we just need to get a President in the White House that has the ball to push the RED BUTTON on all those trouble makers over there. Fuck "politically correct!" It's high time we show those socialists and killing religious zealots who's boss. I'm sick of all the bullshit. Let's send Obama, Pelosi, and Harry Reid over there before we do it though so we can make sure we get them too! All these anti-capitalists trying to ruin the U.S. just need to go die somewhere in the middle east with the rest of the vermin. Ha ha!!!

not to many would talk bout it, being it ended up a stalemate. Now many years later north korea is more of a threat to usa, now then ever , Vietnam was another sick war usa lost, they got chased out by farmers with pitch forks, come to think about usa really has never won a war with out the help of allies world war 2 usa stood aside as allies got slaughtered only when japan attacked pearl harbor did usa enter the war but would not land 1 ground troop in europe only after england an russia had germany on the run did usa start landing ground troops,
hell there war on independance was fought along side the french
usa= 7900 nuclear ready missiles
ussr = 17,900 nuclear ready missiles

USA invaded canada 1812 Canada is only country to ever incinerate washington DC and burn down the white house

its bin proven that usa has killed more allies in combat (friendly fire ) then any other Nato country
thats where the saying goes trigger happy yanks came from

war for usa was once a money making thing but as usa is broke and cant afford a war and trust me china has the say of things as there the most dominent country in the world

PS: usa owes China 40 trillion dollars
