Use different lights throughout the day?

Hi all,

Because of overly nosey neighbours i am forced to use cfl's just to get a small crop.

Im growing a bcn critical xxl and blue cheese auto and was wondering if i could add a 300w led for a few hours a day without stunting them?

The led is very loud and im worrying about sounds traveling through the wall at night.
During the day it shouldnt be too noticeable but i didnt want to cause problems.

All help is appreciated :)

Thanks

As said above its fine but obviously your not going to get the same results as you would with it on all the time. Your DLI is going to be reduced.

You said its a loud 300w LED, that says a blurple to me, do you know what the exact light power draw is? Or can you link it so I can check it out.
You can get better LEDs that have passive cooling so make no noise at all. I imagine its probably in the range of 130w from experience looking at blurples. If its actually 300w have you thought about going with a 315cmh? Or if your skint a 250w HPS/MH?

If its only low power and you don't have proper ventilation you could pick up something like HLG65 or HLG100 which would probably outperform most cheap blurple lights.

Another option is swapping out your cfl for some white screw in / bayonet LEDs from B and Q or wilko or ebay if you can find a good deal. A few folks been doing that lately in small spaces. One guy has a whole 5x5 lit up with just household LED, they produce more lumens per watt than cfl.

Edit , I know you didn't ask that, just thinking of getting more light to your plants without the noise.

Yeahthelight is a blurple, just a cheap marshydro, 156 actual watts. Have run a 250w hps before and in my current tent it gets wayyy too hot even with intake and exhaust. With 6 cfl's it pushes 25 in there. Haha funny you say about plugin led's i had some laying around and threw one in there, i find the light is very poor because only about 1thirds are usable to the plant but light is light in my current situation lol. I already have my eye on a few cob chips and a decent heatsink so that will be me sorted for next time but stuck with cfl's for now... Right.. Thanks very much for the advice. Off to b&q in the morning :)

Not sure about the 1/3rd of the white light been used, its all in the par range. All of it is useful, its also mostly the same spectrum as any COB or Board that most of us LED guys use these days.

Anyhow good luck with the shopping, maybe try a few pound shops first, sometimes they have good deals on. BnQ is on the dear side.

How loud is the LED fixture that the noise would travel through the walls and disturb neighbors?
I had a Mars Hydro 600 with two fans- audible sure but not enough to transmit through the walls.
I have a 6" extraction fan in one of the rooms in my house. Now that thing is loud especially at full power, but in the next room it sounds like the A/C vents blowing air.
Your neighbors likely can't hear the fans on the lamp, but if they can it doesn't scream LED fixture or cannabis grow. If they ask tell them it's a fan.

IMO ... if that blurple is running loud , possibly the fan bearings are going ... cheap panels run SLEEVE bearings .... howerever they easily replaceable since they are basically COMP fans .

You can SUPPLEMENT your cfl with more of them , if you want a back up plan.

he could run and HLG100 and them supplement with his cfl's, or like i'm doing running led bulbs with the diffusers off.......

Use COBs and heat sinks. They dont make noise and the light looks like normal colored light. The blurple lamps are super abnoxious and obvious.

Wilko led section looks like some micro growers wet dream - still the ultra efficiency really lacks any spectral quality in any of these bulbs :-)

Great advice man but i have a bathroom extractor fan that doesnt turn off and sounds like a jet taking off, i have a shitty black orchid 4 inch extraction which is loud even with a suspended padded box tostop the sound, black orchid intake that adds to the noise then a marshydro 300w and circulating fan.. Added together with paper thin walls i cant see it not being heard from the other side. I would go knock and ask but theyhave connections to the police so fck that . Lol.
