Used Juice

I have had some pretty bad advice on what to do with the old nutes from the res. I produce about 20 gal per week. It's enough to ask the question "what do I do with used nutes." If there is no benifits to be had ,Are there any dangers,or potential probs to arise by not properly desposing of them. Can anyone give me the low down. Not to be confused with the "Down low." T. Thanks

If you're in the US.. and it's under 10mg/L for nitrate contaminant levels.. you won't violate the clean water act and potentially cause watershed issues depending on where you live. If you're in the city, you won't violate clean water act by dumping it down the drain either, and it would be fixed at the composition level when it hits the water treatment plant.

Well, I 'm kinda rural. So I dispose of the stuff very localy. This sucks to admit to, but last year I was told by a "Reliable expert." That, "This stuff is great food for dirt plants,Just check your PH and it's all good." He dumps it on his fruit trees and garden. "Magic stuff it is." Well Fuck Me!!! You can guess the outcome. Very very expensive lesson. So now I'm thinking does this shit kill everything. The lawn ,The trees, The worms, The poor fu--ing bird that eat the worms. Anyway, I've got a well & septic system to think of ,kids ,pets , That sort of stuff. For now I have been spreading it in my dirt drive way. Don't want grass growing there anyway. But it's only 300 ft long and sooner or later it will become an issue again. I plan on producing this juice for some time to come. (I really enjoy my garden,) So I was hoping somebody might have some good ideas or advice. I am in the U.S. and it's a relief to know that "Home Land Security" Won't have an issue with me. Thank you. But maybe someone knows what this shit is . Is there any possibility that a benifit could be had from it. I would hate to wake up ten years from now with a super fund cleanup happening. All fun aside, can anyone add to what Figong has given us. Thanks

Some do use it for outside grows, or flowerbeds - which is fine.. in moderation (see: cut, not right out of the res). High nitrate levels if you have a well, and it's straight from well to tap with no filtration may prove to be not so good, assuming it gets introduced into the well/watershed that the well draws from.

you could hook a pump into a filter or r/o unit, make the water clean and throw away the filters.
Another good idea, not a bad one either - and if ever asked or accused of contamination, you'd have pump/filter setup close to it to demonstrate you're being responsible :D

O'brother, somehow I assumed the same thing that expert said, 'was' thinking of doing the park across the street a "favor".

So, wow, had no idea my hydro grow would possibly make me a contaminator. Just threw away about 15 gallons.

I guess dilluting with tapwater isn't going to fly legally, but if you cross that 10mg/L just a little then a bottle of demi/distilled should work.

How about throwing it in a fishing pond near my house? Aquaponics?

Depending on the concentration, and how fast the fish will process through it before more could get potentially dumped.. you could induce nitrate poisoning in the fish. That also assumes that you're not near a well, or near a major watershed for your area - unless you can be 100% certain that their pond liner is intact.

I'm kinda picking up on the nitrate stuff. You have mentioned it a couple times. Do you suppose if I did a little research on that subject I might learn something helpfull. I plan on producing mas quantitties of the stuff, Can't hurt to know what I'm making. I do like the filter idea. Maybe someone can talk about the type of filter that would work. Or, Do you think there might be a way to cause the nitrates to fall from susspention.Or maybe I'm just overthinking the subject.

r/o unit http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=270
pump http://www.sunlightsupply.com/p-12012-mondi-utility-sump-pump.aspx

. the water that comes out will be pure, for the price of the r/0 unit, you could use it for 6 months or so and just buy a new one.

Just pour it down the toilet. Can't be worse than the dump you took after Taco Tuesday. Don't let your neighbors know what you are doing .

Put it on your lawn, tress, or house plants. Thats what I do.. DO NOT use it to water a Canna plant >:(... really just drump it on your lawn.. its fine. N is N, P is P and K is K.. NO matter where they came from.. your plants will love it. OR if you can re charge soil or compost, dump it in there, it will ++ up the soil.
