Using a pot instead of a pressure cooker

PC is absolutely necessary, and be careful using granny's. If it's ever been boiled dry, it could have microscopic cracks that could cause it to explode...not the best case scenario. I use my old 1965 model Presto, but I know it's history. If you're serious about growing shrooms be prepared to invest in a good PC. It's worth it.

They sell pressure cookers at salvation army most of the time for like $10, that's how I got mine. There is usualy like 100 second hand stores in any given area so keep going to them till you find one.

yes u sure can and ive done this with my own experience... u just have to use the small mason jars only the tall ones wont get sterilized but the small ones will...but this is what i did and it worked just like in a you tube vid ill post a new topic of my journal i did for shroomtalk.com cause i was new and im still learning and when starting out i was broke and limited supplied and have great success with just a pot & lid a newly bought en card board box with holes cut out on both sides for hands and a viewing window made of tape and plastic wrap and Lysol spray and it should work just fine bro let me find the pics to help ensure this also the youtube vid is what i watched and this is where ive started outta my mums kitchen and her pots and pans :D looking back on it id probly go with this method again i grew some small size mushy and but ive had a blast with em and was good enough to learn and respect fuck the pressure cooker unless u wanna get more serious with bigger jar for bigger yields and good sterilizing they just insure this if u just want to get ur foot in the door this will work just dont expect them all to come out clean u will learn to try and be clean as possible doing this method starting out personally i was dumb and didnt read enough on this and fail x3 times not cause of pot and lid method but just being clean in general is what failed me once i realized what i was doing wrong now i u can use this method and come out safe and clean


note: they dont mention this but i throw my vermiculite in the oven in a clean pan for about 15mins at 360 degrees and let it completely cool off before moving on and mixing it to kill off any air borne bacteria... also organic brown rice only grinned up is what ive done i think one of my fails is that i did non organic or ma by its just me fucking up hope this helps yea

Hey can you help me setup every thing I need to sterilize using a kitchen pot with lid please?

Or you use any pot with lid what size pot any?

Tools are pot with lid thing to put in the bottom of the pot for the jars to sit on so they don't crack?

not a problem just give me a min kind of a busy day today so it will be a min ill get back to u asap but if u watch the vid i posted most of it is pretty much the same

If you want to grow a lot of shrooms get a PC but just a small personal batch you can use a pot at least I seen someone do it on YouTube it was just cheap enough to buy a cooker like 6 years later she still does the trick.

I really don't see the logic behind how boiling a small jar at 212° and boiling a big jar at the same temp would return two differant results when the core temp of both jars are the same.

The reason for a pressure cooker is to get the internal temp to 250° rather than just 212° by boiling. That is why most food that doesn't have acid or salt added have to be pressure cooked to make them not go bad when canning them. Some germs just dont die untill you get to that elevated temp for a sustained amount of time.

Sure you can try just boiling and hope the hard to kill germs arent present but why waste your time when you can get a cheep pressure cooker and ensure everything is dead.

like all they say above if u got the cash its well worth the pressure cooker it will insure clean jars & big ones every time... it but like stated before for personal batch only with pot & lid method thinking back on it i did lose a 2-3 jars ma by along the way outta x20+ small jars so keep this in mind and keep an eye out and don't be afraid to throw away.. as well and don't use bigger jars they don't work with pot & lid they don't fully sterilize thoroughly for some reason i don't know how to tell yea they just don't waste of time small ones only no dis on y'all or the pressure cooker they be worth it but im a go for broke and personal batches

any size pot will do just as long as jars are off the bottom(u can use anything that wont burn even pot clean pot holders i used a rice cooker plastic dumpling suspender and set that up side down on the bottom to keep em up high enough i steam mine for good couple hours check to make sure u don't boil the water out time to time like the vid recommend and do it late at night so and let it cool while i sleep over night and not open the lid till i clean kitchen the next day then i setup my inoculation box and sterilize the area and act quickly transferring into this pre sterile and inoculate the jars and move them into final room to do there thing i have a mini fridge i gutted all the fridge stuff but the treys and gave a good scrub down with Lysol stuffs and it worked out fantastic ill get pics up soon i promise
