Using berries and apples to make fertilizer

Hi

I tried to use search but I didn't find anything really close to this..

Im was hoping to make my own (liquid) fertilezers using apples and different sort of berries. I know ppl are using grass clippings, nettles and other green to make fertilizers just putting them to bucket with water and let them to fermentate. After couple of weeks (or more) filter out the all the "soup" and use the nutrient rich water to plants.

Can I do this with apples and different sorts of berries ? Anyone tried this ? Any conserns about using this "vertilizer" ?

Thank you

You're welcome. I just finished making a batch. Strained it out using cheesecloth tonight. Messy smelly job.

I used cantaloupe, papaya, banana, coconut, pomegranate , and ground cherries.

Good luck!

Thanks ...yeah I sort of did that actually - I attached cheesecloth over the top of one of those buckets and let it drain through for a couple hours. Still messy though.

For sugar I used a combo of molasses and brown sugar.

I wanna thank you guys for giving good advices here.. but I have couple more question for you guys.. How do you preserve your "fertilezers" ? Can I just freeze the liquid and melt it when I wanna use it ? How long these fertilizers last in fridge ? Any way to make it store for longer periods ?

From what I've read, it's very stable and according the Unconventional Farmer site should last for "years" . I would keep it in a cool dark place above freezing.

There's lots of ways to make fpe or chelates with fruits or veggies but I'm lazy. I just throw any kind of kitchen scraps including berry tops and apple cores in my worm bin. The worms do all the work. I find that watermelon rinds are so full of moisture that I end up with a lot of leacheate flowing through the bottom; my houseplants love it. Just a cup of fresh EWC in any container makes super happy healthy plants whether it's mj or a tomato plant or whatever. Plus it's a great base to make AACTs. Worms are easy to maintain as they require very little attention. Just give them food & keep them around room temperature and they will thrive.
