Ventilation in the COLD Winter

Hey guys

I'll be starting another grow in mid November, and I live in Canada (East). The winters here can get quite cold n' Nasty!

I have a 4x4 Homebox GrowTent running a 600W HPS with Cooltube. My exhaust and "In Air" both are hooked up to my window in the spare room.

At this point in the season, the air is a great temp to cool my sytem...but will the huge drop in outdoor temps be a problem?

I could Limit the stength of the "in fan" in my system to push less outdoor air INTO the system - but then my system is lacking the FRESH air that it's used to. I REALLY dont want to invest in a heater (for power bill + equipment costs) if I dont have to.

Any ideas?

-I could take off the cool tube to increase heat and battle the cooler temps?

Thanks guys

Thats exactly what I was going to suggest. run the lights at night and use them to keep it warm. If I am not mistaken you still need some airflow through the tube though. You could use a 4" duct fan and just recycle the air in the area. Its 120cfm.

slowing the intake fan when cold wont hurt as the plants need fresh air but not a lot.I have grown in a cold enviroment befor and used passive vents in at the bottom,a passive vent on top and a small fan tied to a thermostat to help exhaust if temps got to high. the fan almost never ran when temps dropped below 0 F but plants did fine.

if you have the room, you could pull the air into a large box so it warms a little before going into the tent.

Sweet guys!

You've helped me make up my mind.

Ill keep the door in my spare room closed (the room where the growtent is located). I'll bring outside air into the room by leaving the window open, and pull air from the room into my box. The air will be warmed a bit - and I can still send exhuast air out through the other end of the open window (the exhaust air duct in the window aims away from the open on the other end, limiting exhuast air from making its way back in through the open window.

If this fails - I'll ajust and find a method to make this work. Thats the glory of growing pot - you adapt and make things work, big stinky buds is the kind reward!

thanks again fellas
